Kessil A360WE

Slief,

How many Kessils are you running in your tank? I looked at your build thread and your tank is beautiful.

Thank you very much. I covered the switch to Kessil later in my thread. It was also covered as part of an LA Fish Guys episode. Those parts in some place later in my thread too.

I think he is still running 8

You are correct. I am running 8 of them on my light rack.

Wow, that's awesome! I'd like to hear how those SPS do under them.

I'm not suggesting you try it. Really a terrible feeling seeing a $400 light go for a swim. I'm certain they're not waterproof, but mine survived a 5 second dip with no apparent problem.

I've dipped a fixture or two over the years. Now I put a piece of plywood over the tank underneath where I am working.

Update

i continue to be happy with my Kessil lights. Initially I bough three 360WE for my 7 ft display and one 160WE for my frag tank. The latter proved to be too much light, so I moved it up to the main display. I absolutely love the way these lights make the tank look.

I have had some STN issues with a number of my SPS corals. It started around the time I added these new lights, though as it was base up and not bleaching, I believe the problem was unrelated to the light change.

Although I have not yet physically removed them, I am not running the MH lights anymore. I do like the combination of the line-source ReefBreeders LED lights along with the point-source Kessils, though I have gradually set the former from a peak of 90 back to a peak if 60. I am running the Kessils up to 80%.

My camera stinks, so the FTS doesn't come close to capturing how good this tank looks in person.

I just added new three A360WE to my two Evergrow A6 lights. Corals seem to be ok with the change except the a small ritteri anemone moves to shade area and a umbrella leather coral, it close up for two days already.

What is accumulation setting do you recommand?
Kessil color peaks at 80% with intensity at 45% and two Evergrow lights have turned half way down.

It was just a temporary hanging setup, and I was overconfident in it. The tank it's currently on is not long for this world, I'll be upgrading soon (hence the massive lighting purchase).

I am thinking of going with 2 a360 wide units for my 40 breeder. How would I do moonlighting on the kessils? that's the only thing thats holding me back from making this purchase. I current use AI hydra and moonlight is easy there.

You will need to use a supplemental moonlight. This is what I do. The kessils don't operate below 13-15% which is too bright.

I came back to the kessil after owning an ATI LED Powermodule. not that the power module is bad in any way but I feel kessil has more potential in the aspect of LEDS. T5'S can always be supplemented but they don't always need them.

sorry.... i just felt like jumping in

Copying and pasting my post from another forum -

I have been trying to figure out how to do moonlighting with two Kessils mounted to EMT conduit and here it is!

It's a cheap 10-led USB light from eBay; it has about 10" of gooseneck. It was too bright and white so I added a strip of blue vinyl over 9 of the LEDs (I might re-do this so the exposed light is in the middle). The light is perfect and the shimmer is absolutely amazing. I bought a USB extension and plugged it into a USB wall wart. Just wanted to offer this up as a moonlighting solution. I'll post pics of it in action once it's permanently mounted. :) Total cost around 8 bucks.

What's the best way to hang a single 360 from a 9ft ceiling? I'd prefer something where I could raise and lower it as necessary.

I'm surprised nobody makes a small ring of LED's that can attach to the bottom of a Kessil as a moonlight solution.

They make LED rings made to go around camera lenses for macro photography. I've idly considered whether they could be converted for moonlight use but am too lazy. :)

How many hours a day do you guys have your Kessil 360 on?
I have 360WE if it matters. 10 hours per day but was thinking about cutting back to 8 hours per day.
