Kris4647 and Ike

Anybody know how Kris fare with this hurricane? He is very near the direct path of this one. Good luck Kris, and other reefers in the Texas coast. I did well here in Corpus Christ, no problem at all for me or my family.

Minh,

Glad to hear you and yours were spared the wrath of the storm.

Hoping Kris is alright as well. I have not seen a log in on any of the boards we share membership :(

Received word Kris is safe. I am sure Kris will post as the time and the situation allow.

You know its really a great moment in a bad week to see someone out there is thinking about my family and I. We just got our power back on today.

We evacuated on Thursday 9/11/08. My home is in a surge zone so besides being mandatory per the government it was simply my job as a father to get my family out of harms way. We are at 13' elevation and we were expecting a 15-18' storm surge.

It's a tough feeling to drive away from everything you have knowing it could all get blown away, literally.

We went to my wife's family in Lake Charles, so while evacuated we still rode out Ike in a pretty badly impacted area.

We were restricted on our return by local officials for good reason really, the eye wall/eye went directly over our area. The wind damage was pretty bad even considering this wasn't "the big one" at catagory 2/3. I was blessed in that, the surge affected areas due east of me and never made it here. I have friends within five miles who had 4-5' of water in their home.

I returned home on Monday the 15th to a completely dead tank. 400 gallons of dead bodies of anemones and clownfish and misc inverts that go with them. Just dark brown water. Truly a dark day for me. There simply isnt any contingency plan or backup that covers over 45 hours of no circulation.

Well thats the majority of the story, we are all safe and truly lucky considering some of the problems that surround us. A few downed trees and roof damage is the majority of our problems with the house. If you've seen the boats on the road in Kemah Texas or the Dairy queen under water, thats roughly 5 miles from me.

I'm considering taking down the 400, it's just tough to look at right now.

Thanks for all your collective concern and here's hoping you never have to go through this Minh.

I am glad you and your family are OK. The house, other than the smell of the fish tank seem OK also.
If Ike went a little South, I would be in your situation. In fact, as of Wednesday, I was planning evacuation, but fortunately for me, I did not have to.
Hang in there. Let me know if there is anything I can do.

I am very glad to hear about you and your family Kris, but so, so sorry about your sea life. If there is anything I can do, just lmk.

Hey Kris,

I am very sorry to hear about the tank, but I am glad you seem to have made it through the storm fairly well otherwise. It was a little scary even over here in Sugar Land.

I sure hope you decide to stay in the hobby. You have always been an enjoyable contributor. I am just now getting back to a point of trying to get something going again after a four year absence and I have missed it.

Good Luck!

Mark

Kris,

It's really good hear you and yours are ok and safe, but I am really sorry to hear about the tanks.

If I was that side of the pond, you could count me as a further offer of help/support.

Thanks for all the kind words all.

I'm mulling over my options, I don't think I'll ever be out of the hobby completely. The only thing that sorta excites me about things right now would be a rebuild.

Take Care all!
Kris

I am setting up a 240 g tank and a fish room right now. I will put in a automatic generator that will use natural gas as fuel. As soon as the power cut out, it will kick in with minimal interuption. Hopefully, if I do this, unless my house get flood with surge wave or get get a direct hit from a storm and get massive damage, it would be OK, even when I am not there. This is about as secure as I can do living here on Texas coast. The generator will test fire every month. The whole thing does cost less than what I will spend on my tank.

NG pipeline is underground and usually does not get interuped in hurricaine.

Goodluck Kris.
