kudoras 84 gallon thread

well, the RKL went on sale today for $99 and i picked up two, one will go on the DT with 2 pc4s and the head unit will go on the 40 breeder, thats the plan for now. i will get sl2 for both of them eventually since they were sold out tonight on the DA website.

The test kit makes it worth while. I'd say you made out pretty good compared to some I've seen on this go 'round.

yup i agree, the testkit and the tongs will be nice, same with the little knife from tunze lol the rest of it i doubt i will use. i was going to order the bulbs melev recommends but i might try these two since i have them /shrug

Hopefully the SL2's will be released soon. They have said 2nd quater 09 for a while now and havent pushed it back. So hopefully in a couple of weeks. I have been waiting on that myself. I will also need a couple more PC4's and the Net controller, and the MLC. LOL. I need to win the lottery.

I picked up 2 of the rkls also and a mlc with 4 extra pods. I figured for $9 more than buying an extra pc4 i might as well have a spare temp probe and head unit. Hopefully they get the sl2s out soon.

yup i thought over the pm you sent me and basically i got a really nice temp prob for my 40 breeder.

ah ok

my order of frozen food came in yesterday; all of it is hikari except the PE mysis.
Mega-Marine 100 gr cubes
Mysis Shrimp 3.5 oz cubes
Mega-Marine Algae 3.5 oz cubes
Daphnia 3.5 oz cubes
Frozen Krill 3.5 oz cubes
Spirulina Brine Shrimp 3.5 oz cubes
PE Frozen Freshwater Mysis Shrimp 16 oz flat pack

so far i have tried 3 different foods for the copperbanded
PE mysis: hit and miss i think its too big, sunburst loves it
krill: LFS said it was eating krill but SF brand, no one touched it
mysis: copperbanded liked it but again only the smallest pieces

other foods tried
rods: both fish pick at it but the copperbanded is picking something off the rock after i feed( i am assuming its something in rods)
SF mysis: not eating much of it
SF spirulina: wont touch it
SF brine: wont touch it
formula 1 flake: ignores it
formula 2 flake: ignores it
formula 1 pellet: ignores it

It is not shy anymore and you can come up to the glass slowly and it wont hide anymore. it follows me in the room and keeps an eye on me at all times.

Nice order... I usually defrost 3 days worth of food (a little mix of everything) at a time in a little specimen cup, so I don't have to mess with it daily. 3 days is about the max I've noticed before the food tends to go bad, and a distinct smell arises. LOL

Hey btw... have you checked out:

www.oracorals.com

I just found it recently, they've got some sweet pictures of what ORA corals (are supposed to) look like. Now I just need to figure out how to get mine to look the same.

yeah i checked it out a couple of months ago, the person who runs it stopped by my old local message board and asked for photos, alot of the photos look nice but remind me of the "vibrant colors" you see on live aquaria. i will admit my pearlberry has such a nice light blue hue at the tips when looking at it from above.

might start leaving food out in the fridge then, it is so annoying and a chore atm getting food ready for both tanks. Especially since i am feeding the copperbanded and sunburst 3 to 4 times daily. not alot but my skimmer on that tank is actually getting skimmate so i know i am feeding alot.

have you checked out my other thread, i just picked up a 430 for this tank to add 2 bulbs and picked up a 660 to put 39w x 4 over the new 40 breeder.

been feeding the PE mysis to the tank, everything loves it.
i usually dont rinse my food but after defrosting the PE mysis the water is very cloudy and it makes the tank cloudy for a min or so.
should i just start rinsing it then?

I personally think you should. There are alot of unwanted stuff in the juice they use to freeze the mysis into a cube and this could contribute to unwanted algae growth. I always rinse mine.

Kudora--you have to get those live black worms for long term success with the cbb
see PaulB's thread

i know capn, i felt bad for the fish it had been at the LFS for a month and figured it would have a better chance with me(second butterfly fish i rescue from there) the last one was a saddleback that would barely eat anything and was see through, after weeks of live brine and various foods it got better and after 3 months would eat flake and anything i would put in the tank. i have talked to the LFS and they will let me know by next week if they can get me a 1/4 pound of black worms(smallest they can get), if that fails then i will have to look at ordering some online soon.

for now it is actually eating well and still looks great. i have spend hours and hour rereading about the CBB this week i just hope i am one of the lucky ones.

Kudora, I've been culturing grindal worms for my tank. A lot easier to take care of then black worms and you can expand the culture as much as you need. My fish love em. Try em out. If you're in bismarck sometime I'll get you some.
