kudoras 84 gallon thread

bulk reef supply order came in today.

got a 2 part starter kit, 2 thin profile gallon jugs and 2 BRS dosers.

they were out of drews doser so i decided to give these a try. a little bulky for my taste but worth it if i can automate the 2 part.

copperband has been with me 5 weeks now, i bumped the feedings to 4 times a day during the week and 5 times a day during the weekend.

he loves the cleaner shimp and sleeps next to him at night. the Lymphocystis is completely gone and he is completely healed up.
one thing i have noticed is that i have to let the mysis completely thaw(20 or so min) or he will spit half of them out. he spent 4 weeks at the LFS and 5 with me now and is looking great. i went ahead and named him shyguy for the NES char but he is anything but. out shines any fish i have owned by far :)

questions and comments welcome :)

I am extremely happy that the cbb is doing so well.

thx capn, its been a good amount of work trying to find ways to keep him happy but well worth it.

i picked up a reefkeeper light a month ago for this tank, i have been waiting for the sl2 to come out which gives you the option of monitoring salinity instead of ORP. my question is which one is better to monitor, I would like to get the ph prob but i guess i can wait.

I would think pH would be more important to monitor over salinity or ORP. I have an old ReefKeeper 2 and I don't know what I think about the new RKL and RKE. Definitely more expandable and now a competitor for the Aqua Controller line, but it seems like all the parts add up to be really expensive really fast.

RKL is only $99 and it comes with a temp prob and a pc4, but your right it will cost me a little over $100 to get the ph module and probe another pc4 will cost $90 which i already need so i am up to $300. my reefing buddy has been telling me i should have just bought the RKE package and be done with it or the new Apex. i would like to buy one vortex soon so its one of the reasons i kinda went cheaper on the controller. sigh so many choices in this hobby lol

Just to chime in, I got one yesterday from BRS and they're even cheaper. After getting help from a friend how to set things up, I order two more today for some of my other tanks. Pretty darn good controller for the money in my book.

I'm not a expert on controllers, but have used the original ReefKeeper on my 600 for over 2 years and really have liked it. Nice thing about that one is the 8 outlets on the plug strip. I was really tempted to replace it today, but if it isn't broke, don't fix it...I think that is the way it goes. Like you, after tomorrow, I will have a few extra mechanical timers laying around. :)

just checked out your site goodwin, awesome tanks. might have to drive south someday to check them out. do you have any build threads on RC?

Thanks for the heads up on the cheaper price. 95 bucks is hard to beat, especially when I need a couple of PC4's and they are 85 bucks. Probably going to order two Monday myself. Maybe you can come over and show me how to hook it up, LOL. Luis, we should take a road trip to see Chuck's tank, then head over to see Tangdiver's and Travis's tanks also. A reef road trip.

yeah that would be nice for sure, hows the cheato working out for you?

edit:
got a couple of things done today

took out a large amount of cheato today from my fuge it filled 3/4 of a 2.5 gallon bucket and demonic took it to add to his macro in his fuge.

killed some aiptasia with aiptasia x

Demonic was able to come over and check out the copperbanded and the sunburst today. i am really liking the idea of a acclimation tank that has sand and LR in it. I think it helped acclimate both fish to what i have available to eat and get them used to an aquarium in general. i might take out the sand and leave the rock and just have it set up as a qt/acclimation tank for fish and coral.

That chaeto is great. It filled it up pretty good. Still got a lot of room for it to grow. And I want that sunburst. He would fit my tank perfectly. LOL

been busy this week doing home improvement type of work around the house. Both tanks are doing well and my corals are coloring up again after my PH had dropped to 7.8 and alk to 7, i dont think i was dosing enough alk and my sps started looking stressed for a couple of days. i had a bit of STN on the pearlberry but everything else is fine.

week 6 of the copperband, its doing great and just stares at me and watches my movement in the room. trying to mix in flake and pellet with his food but i have yet to see him eat any.

rip it apart and spread it over the surface area of the fuge---you will get better growth and as a result better uptake of nitrates ad phosphates from it
Also purposely take out a handful of it once a week by ripping and tearing the ends ----this promotes growth also
