kudoras 84 gallon thread

shot of the tiger tail after not seeing it for awhile

tigertail-1.jpg

OCT was a great month seeing the coral thrive in good conditions.
dosing is not much of a chore and i dont really mind it.
my alk was 8 at the begining of the month it was low but i took the phosban reactor off line and the cheato has exploded in growth while the nitrates and phosphates stay at zero. i finally installed the new titanium heaters and saw the temp go from 81.5 to 78.6. This was at the same time i took the phosban off line the alk went to 11 overnight. it was to much for the orange monti cap and it started to die from one side. after a couple of days it was fine tho.

plus am going to make the 30 gallon QT into the GSMs home as a softy tank :)
Funny how that happens.

Wow that frogspawn looks massive!

Very nice shots, and progression pics. Looks like everything is doing well. That coraline growth is nuts!

funny you mention that, i just spent 25 min scraping coralline off the back left side of the tank. i bet you i got a 4x3 inch area done in that time, ugh but i am sure everything will pop out with a black background.

wow finally an update in the same month we are in

here is a long tentacle plate coral i picked up a couple of weeks ago

PB180262Medium.jpg

when the clown first hosted it, it looked great, but in the last week i have had to put a top of a soda bottle with holes to keep the GSM away from it.

yeah the clown is as big as my whiteface tang and its still growing, its crazy thick too. he moves all my corals around and the sand everywere.

the GSM has been sent to the fuge a couple of days ago, i dont think the plate coral is going to make it either. even putting the coke bottle on top of the coral didnt work, the fish got mad and was spitting sand in from the top most of thursday while i was out eating thanksgiving dinner. came back and the coral was buried and the fish was still putting sand in.

even after all my effort the plate looks worse today. my bubble coral was my first coral casualty and it looks like the plate will be my second:(

softy tank update: put sand in, the media i put in there from my DT tank has a bunch of sponges and feather dusters, i have a total of 3 pounds of live rock in there now and 15 pounds of base rock, will head down next week to a LFS and purchase another 4 or 5 pounds of live rock.

edit: will put a pic up later, it nothing special atm just a hob filter and a k nano. will have to clean up the remora c i picked up last weekend and fire that baby up.

its mouth is wide open and has no tentacles out today.
did recieve my shipment of interceptor so i will start dipping my sps in that from now on also.

wow need to dust off this bad boy. quick update then: my powder brown is doing great, eats well and plays well with my other fish. the GSM has found a new home finally and is no longer in my fuge(good thing since he was eating all the pods).

new livestock: i got some galaxea(wow it has some long tenticles, some reach 4 to 5 inches) a ORA bottle brush, and a ORA acro Verde.

now for the sucky news. i was sick a better part of a week, i had been fighting aiptasia for a few months but since i didnt do much to the tank at the beg. of Jan while i was sick it exploded!!!! i have gone through a bottle of tropic marin anti aiptasia and it has barely put a dent on the stuff, going to use joes juice this comming week. i put in a couple of pep shrimp a couple of days ago but i only seam to find one. i have 2 shrimp in the sump/fuge area atm and they seam have taken out the aiptasia.

cant get any livestock through the mail for now since its -10 outside atm and it wont get much better for a couple of months :(

did recieve some goodies today, my bottle of revive, some formula 2 flakes and my sprung seaweed flakes. after spitting out the flakes a few times the tangs got used to them and ate them all up. order of flakes(seaweed) being eaten up, best to last, purple, green then red.

the scraper kit that is made to be added to the magnetic algae scrubber works fantastic on coralline and everything else. You just glue the scraper to the back of the water side of the scubber--works great.

Nice to see an update... finally.

The ORA Verde is a very underrated piece IMO. I have one, and really like to color and growth pattern.

As far as Revive, I really like it as well... however, I have noticed an increase in benign flatworms in the frag setup. I know the Tropic Marin was effective at killing them... I'm unsure if some are skating through the Revive dip, or if it is the remnants of the small outbreak I had in the 90.

That sucks about the aiptasia... there is really no EASY way to rid them. It took almost 3 years before I could officially call my tank aiptasia free. Peppermint Shrimp... Copperbanded Butterflys... etc. seem to all be hit or miss on eradication.

I know a guy who dipped a rock covered in mushrooms in boiling kalk water to get rid of them. It melted them all away initially, but I never followed up to see if he was successfully long term with it though.

+1 on the pics as well.

just got back, drove 100 miles in -10 weather to get a ora pearlberry and a ora green monti cap, wish i remembered the name, its a researchers name. plus i picked up the first inhabitant for the 30 gallon..... :)

just aclimated the corals in the tank, wow that revive smells like strong pinesol lol i was not expecting that kind of smell.

pics in a bit my brother in law is comming with his camera
