LA gig on the way

Tagging along. I got a small bleached gig last week from a lfs. After 5 days of treatment it still deflates the same time at night right about 11pm.

Ok so I know standard treatment for infection is 7 days usually. I'm not sure its got one. But more wondering if its just super stressed from the shipping? as the mouth stays closed and it never goes completely flat. Should I keep up with the cipro after 7 days or stop and see what happens?

Share some photos so we can assess. IME the recent crop of gigs get stuck in "limbo" where they don't die but never recover. I had one that slowly died over the course of three months. It never fully deflated but never fully inflated either. I'm curious to see if yours looks like mine did.

The brown stuff the nem is expelling in the photo is dead zoox. We don't know if this is a direct result of the antibiotics or a result of infection or simply from shipping stress and lack of light. We can agree that is is either extremely sick or stressed. We never see flat gigs or visible striping of the tentacles in healthy specimens.

At this point your guess is as good as mine. Since you've gone this far, my suggestion is to finish the 7 day treatment protocol. At least you can rule out partial treatment as the reason for its demise. You can try Septra, but IME, they perk up the first day and quickly go downhill. I suspect that Septra is extremely potent and therefore has the ability to either cure or kill a nem, it just depends on the individual specimen as I have seen it go both ways.

Best of luck and keep us updated.

I gave up ordering gigs from LA. I ordered about 6 in the past 3 months and all exhibited the same exact symptoms as yours. They start out 'ok' for the first 3-4 hours, then after the first deflation it's all downhill. I tried with Cipro, Septra, qt, dt and any combination in between. Some will flatten like yours is doing and others will begin to literally disintegrate from the foot. In all cases except for one, they had always a hard time to attach to anything.

Well I noticed the tank was getting pretty dirty with algae on the glass so I did a 100% water change tonight instead of a 50% and it looked the best it ever has. Added the cipro for night number 6 and out with the lights. I didnt notice any of the spots on the foot like i had a few days ago so maybe they have healed. I noticed though that it looks like it might be trying to develope a hole in the disk :( . It still hasnt attached to anything. Whats confusing to me is most of the sick nems I have saw have had gaping mouths. This one has been tight sense right after it come in. He just dosent want to inflate all the way or attach.

Possible hole forming?

Moved to the fuge of my main system and let my clowns start to be hosted by it. It's not going flat anymore but still hasn't attached to anything and still not fully inflating. I'll post pics later when I get home

it reminds me of the small one I received from live aquaria but so much better now after proper set up.

Honestly if it hasn't attached yet you may have one of the gigs that here recently no matter what you do cannot be saved :( Good Luck.
