Large Tankers - What Skimmer You Using?

500-700+ watt pumps? Where are you coming up with that? I don't think there is a single skimmer in this thread using that much.

I dont understand how people run these skimmer with 500-700+ watt pumps . SO much money down the tube

Typically the larger pressure rated skimmers like becketts and downdrafts would use up to an Iwaki 100, which is 390 watts I believe.

It's my opinion that the efficiently of needle wheel skimmers are less noticed as you start adding pumps. For example an ASM G6 consumes 270 watts.

I agree, I am thinking about getting a MR6R for my new tank (450). Andy says that a Sequence 3200 pressure pump (1000 series) would run that dual beckett skimmer nicely. The pump draws 213 watts. Since it is a RC skimmer the feed pump wattage is a wash as a needlewheel skimmer would require them also(out of sump).

I use a duel Beckett MRC-MR-7 on a Sequence 4300. Only overkill to those who've never seen a foot long Sohal Tang poop.

This was made by GEO to be an air stone skimmer, and later modified by me with a sequence neede wheel. Please ignore my geekie friend in the picture, but I don't have another with the entire skimmer.

I always love seeing your setup dgasmd. Hopeful sometime soon we will meet up when my 2kg tank is up and running.

Nanook has one, but never been used. Lost Marbles has one that he got from Nanook and it seems to work very well.

Those of you using a Sequence NW pump, did you make the impellar yourself? Or are they now available for purchase?

Thanks,
Goby
