Lauren's Dirt Cheap DIY Nano Reef

i know of someone selling a LED 24 inch setup- its the one from MArineland.

For DIY LEDs it really depends what you want if you want blues and whites on the same channel and non dimmable probably around $120. If you want seperate channels one blue one white and fully dimmable it would be closer to $220.

Cool! Do you know if its the Reef Compatible one?

I like it its just a bit long front to back but what a nice set up!

Actually, when I black out the sump portion, the display is only 24 inches long

ouch. for the size I am needing, it sounds as if pre manufactured and diy run about the same

Old style MaxiJets? What happened with MaxiJet pumps? Did the company sell out? That's distressing news. All my MaxiJets are older, so I must have these old styles you're speaking of.

Just to answer and apologies to Lauremf2002 for going off track, but the newer Maxi's, the kind that say Pro on the package are now made in China and are inferior to the original Italian made pumps. They tend to be noisier, and aren't suited for wavemaker duty or other intermittent use. As for longevity, I've got an older style MJ900 thats been running as a return pump in my NC12 for nearly 7 years with no issue, the newer ones I'm not sure how long they last. Premiumaquatics.com carries the originals branded as Cobalt, however mediabaskets.com sells the MJ1200 size for somewhat cheaper.

There is a chinese compny that sells brightwell led kits pretty cheap. There is a big discussion thread in either the DIY section or the lighting section...I forgot which. I think their name is aquastyle or aquaillumination, and people seem to be happy with the company andthe LEDs. They arent s effifient as crees, but they seem to work. I dont have any experience with them, so I cant comment beyond that.

Hey lauren did you get a light yet?

Lynn gave me a Rapid LED Par38 bulb and I went to the big box store and bought a hanging light kit. All I have to do is find a shade that doesnt totally distract from the tank. That is proving more difficult than I thought. I spray painted the glass tonight, got the pump, tubing and modular hose into the tank and the salt water is mixing! Tomorrow I add sand rock and H2O. Im so excited. Oh, and I ended up just adding 3 L brackets under the overhang of the counter. It seems really sturdy now and there really isnt going to be that much weight on there anyway. The counter is centered in the cut out, with only about 4 inches of free edge on either side of the wall. The tank only has about 2 inches on either side that arent above the support of the wall. I probably didnt even need the L brackets, they just make me feel better and now the counter doesnt wiggle when I lean on one side! I will let you know if it collapses when I put water in it. haha jk! .... I hope

:celeb1: Ta Da! :celeb3: I am pretty dang proud of this little bad boy.

Thank you Lynn for the bad ace light

That looks great!

Thank you! I can't wait to stock it! I was thinking a pair of Ocellaris Clown Fish, a Randall's Goby and a Randall's Pistol Shrimp, and a couple of Barnacle Blennies. And some really colorful sps. I'm picturing a Skittles theme... no brown corals allowed

PS Can anyone bring a couple of balls of Chaeto to the meeting Saturday? I need a small one for my tiny refugium in this tank and one for the Club Frag Tank
