i saw a post about home made ways to soak food for vitamins and it mentioned lemon juice for vitamin c i bought a juevinille yellow tang from my lfs thats all screwed up it came with black ich and hlle disease after carefull examination i will be feeding it nori live cabbage algae from my fuge, live brine gut loaded mysis soaked in garlic pellets and i guess some mysis soaked in lemon juice if its ok what do you guys think?

Maybe, but it might taste bitter to the fish and he may spit it out. It's worth a shot.

On another note; parsley contains some Vitamin C. You might try that too.

Since reading a recent post on garlic here on RC that sites several studies on the topic, i am now convinced garlic oil has no real benefit and can be harmful over the long term. I think there are many other ways to provide superior nutrition.

^^^ If garlic tastes good to fish and it gets them to eat when they normally won't, that's good enough for me. An eating fish is a healthy fish. Sometimes you gotta get your eyes out of the books\webpages and try some of your own experiments. Garlic works man. I've seen it.

I think the OP was talking about using garlic for long term use, like a vitamin.

I agree that if a fish is not eating, and garlic prompts it to eat, then that is a very good thing indeed. I also don't doubt that garlic oil is a valuable appetite stimulant in many cases. (But I have never heard of a case where it was needed on an on-going basis to KEEP a fish eating in SW aquaria.)

The post I cite is thought provoking, of scientific quality & not anecdotal evidence, observation or hearsay. Its long. And i am not suggesting it is the last word on the topic. But the part on long term fish health is what i was referring to. The author references numerous papers Check it out for yourself. Sometimes you gogta revisit preconceived ideas or commonly held beliefs too!

I have to say the the black ich has gone away after two days of garlic soaked mysis I was going to perform a fresh water dip this morning and I saw it was gone.....
