I have not seen the new leopard wrasse at all today.

At last viewing he was eating frozen mysis with a fury, seemed healthy, and all my water parameters are in check.

Is it possible he will just stay burried for a day or so at a time.....or should I consider him a gonner?

I'm very depressed to say the least.

My male bipartitus stayed buried for 4 days straight after eating well for a few days; I thought he was gone, and then he popped back. These things are tricky. That being said... I'm currently 2 of 8 for success.

olemanwinter, the wrasse may dissapear for quite some time and yes it could be for a week or more . many times they will come out for very short periods of time and once they get spooked or feel uncomfortable they will burrow again . so your may be coming out and you just arent seeing it at the times it is . i know this because when my wife broke her leg she saw some of my newbies come out for just a couple of minutes and then quickly dissapear .i quickly caught on and made sure she had food to give them the second they came out and they figured it out staying up longer and longer each time . now i feed at 10 am 12;30pm 5 pm and at 7pm each day and my wrasses are fat ,fat, fat .

Thanks for the responces.

I have read about the leopards staying burried for days or even a week or so at a time.

I think what has me concerned was that for the first two days he was out ALL DAY and seemed completely care free. To suddenly find him MIA is a bit scary.

I was under the impression that the long absences were only when first being introduced, that once comfortable and swimming all day they would remain just so.

i would be a little concerned but i have has some out for a few days and then dissapear only to return for a long stay in my tank . dont be anxious and give em time ,theres really not to much that you can do to help them excepyt the prazi pro and get them eating . remember they may be coming out when your not seeing so check tommorow and this weekend and have some food ready for them . live brin is best in the begining . good luck

lol i have had 10 ,with a 0% success rate so they can have them guys ! seriously i'm waiting for my monster tank before i try them again . i have spent thousands on the elusive choati leopard wrasses and i some day will conquer but i have to be patient for now . spring time i should have my 300ish gal up and running and then we will pull the trigger again .:uzi:

Just thought I would stop by and post a couple of updated photos of my leopards.

Both are doing well and have been with me since March 09. I think my bipartitus may be changing from female to male.

I'm so stoked! I put a blackspot in around Halloween and wrote him off as a goner. When I went to feed tonight he was out and swimming with everyone else! He has gone after the food and is picking at the rocks. Hopefully he'll continue eating for me. Fingers crossed.

awesome to hear ! see how a bit of patience works out ? they are funny like that but very ofter they are just getting settled down and thats their defense and safe zone till all is clear . gerat to hear good news always

Just an update on my Black Leopard wrras I found him In my filter sock Alive he was in ther for about a day? I try to change my filter socks once a day.I know with wrrases you'r supposed to have a sand Bead ...I dont just lots of live rock with lots of stuff on it SPS,LPS,Zoas,Paylies,Mushrooms,Acros.I try to feed him twice a day with cyclopies frozen and brine shrimp seems to be working.

My choati is still doing well. I have had it for 5 months now. The tank it was in started leaking do it moved into my 120. It schools with the lineatus wrasses. I'll get some new pics soon.

wrasses are notorious leapers and you should cover your overflows with a piece of plexiglass so thats not gonna happen again .
good ta hear of a choati living well ,hope he lives long and brings you much enjoyment ! yes please some pics would be greatly appreciated.

around Halloween and wrote him off as a goner. When I went to feed tonight.

Wow. That gives me hope. My first leopard, which I had posted pictures of, has now been MIA for about 4 days. Introduced last sunday....last seen tuesday night.

I was losing all hope until I read that.

can anyone help me better understand the difference in male/female of the Macropharyngodon choati ??

how bad of an idea would it be to stick a plastic rod gently into the substrate and ever so slowly move it around until I find my burried wrasse or until I conclude he is gone?

I think my pod population is very low. The wrasse is eating prepared foods, and I figured that I could simply feed him enough a few times a day because I work from home. However, if the wrasse is burried I obviously can't feed him regardless.

rort, im pretty sure that i already posted that omn this tread ,they are very similar .check it out if not i will discuss it then .

olemanwinter, i would not recoment that ,your skimmer will tell you if there is a dead fish in your tank and you want to leave him where he is most comfortable . the less stress the better and thats his comfort zone .i would have some food in the fridge and keep checking for him throughout the day and when he appears feed him then . stirring things up just wont be benifiscal because if he is alive he will be spooked and probably not eat when you awaken him .
