Mine will eat Hikari mysis. I think broad generalizations often need to be thrown out in this hobby. I will agree though that the PE is better.

Actually, my statement about PE mysis is not a broad generalization as we were discussing new leopard introduction into an aquarium. Many leopard wrasses when introduced into the aquarium are problematical feeders but it has been my experience that PE mysis is best when starting to feed them. Of course, that is just my experience with my pairs of M. Choati and M. bipartus as well as two non paired leopards.

My new very pretty addition. Behavior so far seems very different than what I've read here as 'typical'. Introduced direct into the tank and didn't hide yesterday. Seemed to have gone to bed when the lights went out but was out when I got home this afternoon and is still out floating about. Picking on the rocks every now and again. Doesn't sand dive when I approach the tank. I even did a water change tonight and had the turkey baster in the tank to blow the crap around, and neither of those sent her into the sand. Not sure if that is good or bad so I guess we'll see.

She is very blue. That get's less prominent as they get older ? Most I have seen are a bit more brown.

yes they will chew and spit out the PE until they can handle the size of it .a couple of mine seem to chew and remove the guts and spit out the outside of the shrimp .

yes some of mine do that also but the little guys seem to squirt the guts into their mouth like gogurt . when the "shell"floats around they all test it and then spit it out as its empty .

Hey, thanks for the info guys. I am really happy, my Leopard seams to be doing great. Was out for a good 9 hours yesterday! She goes around picking at rocks and is very interested in the PE Mysis. Even if she cant eat some of the whole Mysis, it still looks like she is at least getting the guts out of them.

All my fish seam to like her (especially my Exquisite Wrasse) except my Flame Angel who is the king of the tank and likes to chase everybody else from time to time. She dose not seem to mind it to much and has not gone sand diving because of it, so I think it's OK.

Even after reading this whole thread I was still worried about her, after only seeing her once the first week I had her. I had just recently went through a bad experience with a Radiant Wrasse that I only saw 2 times the first 10 days I had him and on the 11 day came out to die.:sad2:

I am only worried that I might run out of pods in my rocks having a smaller tank. Have any of you guys bought those packets of live copepods for your tanks? Do they help keep the pod population up and are they worth the money? I hope she will remain happy as long as I keep her full with PE Mysis and try to entice her with other foods.

It's a 46 gal. Bow Front but hopefully can afford a bigger tank soon. I do have a Back Pack filter stuffed full of live rock.

I have thought about getting rid of my Flame Angel because he is such a bully sometimes. He does a lot of chasing but never actually hurts anything. I do like him a lot though and have seemed to have lucked out with him not bothering any of my Zoos or any other coral. Have had him for a 1 year and 9 months since I set up my first Salt Water tank, after having fresh water tanks for about 7 years.

Hear is a couple pictures I got of him yesterday before it freaked him out and he went to go hide. Was thinking about trying again today but by just putting the camera by the tank it was stressing him out, so I will wait a while.

Not a good photographer and don't have a good camera but hear you go.

i have used live pods but they really don't seen to actually populate the tank as you would think . i must admit that each of my tanks has at least five wrasses eating up the pods so they really don't get a chance . also the tiger pods that you but in the bottles seem to be somewhat disliked by most of my wrasses and the rather eat the PE MYSIS instead .just my experience with them and yours may be different.
good luck as your leopard looks beautiful

each and every fish are a bit different and that's part of the joy of it all . mine all eat the pe mysis because that's all they get five days a week ,the other two days i also use cyclopeeze and they all seem to love that too. they also love the live mysis but its expensive and they cannibalize within four days or so . it really isn't worth the money but my sump is full or them and i net out a bunch every now and then but they do eat each other and that adds to the bioload .

Hey iamwrasseman, was just wondering if all the tanks you own are all personal tanks or you own a store or something. If you have the time and money to have that many tanks at home I am sure envious of you.

please do not be envious of me until you spend a week at my house moving nearly half the ocean from my tanks down the drain then pumping it all up from the basement only to do it again next week . naw really what i have is down to five tanks as of last week when i removed my 12 tank wall and moved it into the garage for storage . yes its alot of work ,but its all personnel with no business involved although i have sold a few fish during my last down grade . sorry for the confusion but i need to change my quotation there as i have been misleading for the past week .thanks for the concern too !lol

I defidently can see how some one could end up with 17 tanks doing this addictive hobby. Been at it for less then two years and have two tanks (46gal, 16gal nano) and almost got another 120gal tank this year and would have if I wasn't probably moving later this year.

It's so much fun with all you can learn and experience. Felt like I have learned a lot since I started but know I have barely scratched the surface.

And no, the only thing I don't envy is all the maintenance needed with so many tanks.;)

on the five tanks that i have there is still a considerable amount of attention that they require and that is probably about four hours of pure joy a week which i don't mind . i removed the twelve tank wall first to gain some highly needed room in my living room because of my family need as we now have five grand kids that use that room for a play pen . and then second i will be installing a 250 gallon monster tank peninsula style in the room just for fun ,well actually my dream tank that has been in the making . i think that all in all there will be more maintenance than before as the 12 tank wall was fish only and it didn't get alot of attention in the past few years . what will be fun is the setup and installation as i will be plumbing the new tank along with three currently running tanks together in my basement and it will be quite a science project as i will be doing many little addons such as a algae scrubber and lanthanum chloride injection along with the usual multiple gadgets that are required for a reef tank .
oh wait this is the leopard wrasse primer and i got a bit distracted and am sorry ,i just got a yellow tail tamarin wrasse and a blue spotted tamarin and am dripping them to go in my juvenile leopard wrasses tank . they will be such a welcome addition as my leopards always are looking for new tankmates and thats my job ,ya know the fun part .
thanks micahs for the questions ,in your two tanks what are your wrasses housed with as i see you have a couple of beauties ,boy i love the leopards and your looks great !

I am really excited my Leopard seems to be doing really great and is wolfin up the PE Mysis, sure glad I read this thread and went and got some. She is such a friendly fish and likes to frolic with her tank mates.

She is being housed with the following; Flame Angel, Exquisite Wrasse, Midas Blenny, ORA Springer's Dottyback, Randall's Shrimp Goby + Pistol Shrimp, and Yellow Clown Goby

Still very disappointed in myself for letting a really beautiful and healthy McCosker's Flasher Wrasse jump from my tank. Thought it was covered good enough and paid the price, the problem has been solved though. Really loved him too, he spent most of his time going back and forth flashing the front of the tank.

Also was wondering the best way to prepare the PE Mysis to maintain the best water quality? I have been thawing it out is a small amount of tank water then draining the water and padding it down lightly with a paper towel to get most of the moisture out. Should I also be rinsing it with a strainer using tank water as well?

Thanks, I really appreciate all the help you guys give hear.

with the mysis i use regular warm water rinsing it through a net until its thawed and then lightly squeeze it in a paper towel about four times and then feed it to all my wrasses .i honestly don't know if the tap water adds anything but they are all living quite well and happy . also once or twice a week i do thaw the pe mysis in a small container and add selcon to supplement . also i use GV3 that is an additive ,but i switch back and forth whenever one runs out .remember that there is always MORE that you can do but does it really help ?ya never know .
