well the choati's are gone as you said how hard they are and i lost the battle too .i just got a super small dragon wrasse and put him in with my other small wrasses , he is doing great .i should be getting two potters and a yellow chested tamrin tomorrow about noon and will be getting the directly from my LFS in the bag . the potters will be going in with my four bipartus and tinfoil wrasse .and the yellow chest will be dependent on his size to which tank he goes into . they all are mac certified so I'm excited about that . good luck with your new bipartus as i truly hope he does well . i will keep ya posted on my newbies progress but i first have to get them ,they are on the invoice so its a good chance they will come in .

Bipartitus are a good choice; I have a harem of one beautiful male and three females. I love them! Choati are my favorite though... I'm done with them forever though :P

My lfs has a rather larger potters lepard, 5 inches.

looks active and interested in whats outside the tank.

$65 for the fish.

should I pull the trigger?
is larger better than smaller as far as survival/

Buying leopards is never a price issue. Will it eat PE mysis? What size and configuration is your tank? That is, do you have sand rather than gravel or bare bottom? Do you have sufficient natural food in your tank?

My Potter's has been so easy it makes me nervous reading all these issues with others. I have had him about two months now, never went into the sand when I introduced him, took a day or so to start eating and it has all been great ever since. Reading this I see my experience is not typical, I do wonder if it has to do with how the fish were handled prior to getting to us. I bought mine from a small LFS that someone runs out of their basement. He seems to be careful about who he orders fish from (at least that is the impression I get) and I wonder if that makes a difference. Anyway I purchased a smaller one, probably about 2" (I think it is 2 1/2" now) I don't know if that makes a difference either.

Well, I think it is a rite of passage (another?), but I just read through this entire thread for the second time...
I have been thinking of trying a leapord wrass and decided to pull the trigger this morning. A female meleagris will arrive in the morning from LA.

I will spare you all from the "should I dig through my sand and find it" question... I didnt need to read this thread to know the answer to that.

I will post an update after I get her aclimated and aquainted to her habitat, she is going in my seagrass setup (8" DSB, tons of pods and annoying pod eating flatworms).

Wish me luck!

with the melaranus its almost seems like you get a good batch or a bad batch ,by this im speaking of the proper collection and handling during shipping . some are easy and some it just doesn't matter what you try . hope yours looks and does great !

so i checked out the divers den sneak peek and they showed a blue lined tamrin wrasse so i thought cool as it may be one i would like to get . im ready right when it come online for sale and low and behold the holy grail of wrasses is staring me in the face "Anampses Feminininus " actually its called a blue tail tamrin but whatever . so i immediatly call and get ahold of DD and begin ordering ,she says lets do this quickly and it will be reserved then we can finalize the deal . as shes punching up the last number for the fish it comes up SOLD ! OMG i missed him and was quick but not fast enough . they have had him for a month and he was eating frozen food etc etc . oh well i may have to wait another six years to get this chance but it was fun for a minute as i thought he was going to be mine at last . heres his profile picture ,simply stunning but also $1199.99 . i do hope someone here on RC got him so i see how he does so if its you that beat me to the punch please let me know
thanks Dave

I'm pretty sure they like a bit cooler of water but that's all the info that i know of that would differ her from most wrasse husbandry .i would have quickly evicted a few wrasses so she would be the only fish in the tank to start with . next time i will pull the trigger faster as i will be online and its a bit quicker that way but i made the phone call and that was a mistake .i guess now i will keep looking for the potters as they have been difficult to find . blue zoo has a couple and i will make the call Monday to mike and check on their health as he has been very good to me so far . he even had me hold off once because the fish didn't look great and had frayed finnage . i like it when people are honest that way and will continue my search for the blue lined tamrin as he is pretty much #2 on my list closely behind the choati leopard but i have not had any luck with them . when i say luck i really believe its a crap shoot with such a poor shipper and they really do go through a month of hell before you get them .

I had a red tamarin wrasse that I found in a local fish store. It looked marginal at best when I bought it but I hoped I could bring it back to full health.Unfortunately I couldn't get it to go past the first 3 days :(. Very pretty fish and the one on DD yesterday was super awesome looking. When I saw that guy it was not SOLD yet, but I hemmed and hawed over the price and decided I didn't want to spend it right now. I hope it went to a great home

BTW, a picture of my leopard wrasse from last week :D Sorry for the photo quality.
