OK, good news!

after 10 days the new Leopard is hanging out with the gang!
CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT SPECIES? Ornate? I assume?

He is quite a specimen and is looking rather toothy in the macro shot, lol. Between him and his two little ladies, our snails don't stand a chance. :lmao:

gotcha, I see what you mean.....I just saw the red....the owner didn't know, obviously, and that's the first time it's come out in the light....hummm...thanks!

It looks like a melanurus. if you google the Richmond's Wrasse, most of the adults have the red coloring on the jaw, not the forehead if that makes any sense.

Picked up a leopard over the weekend, have ALWAYS wanted one. Was a great deal, and it was eating at the LFS, so i took it home. I haven't ID'd it or determined the sex yet since its only been with me a couple days. Took PE mysis right away on the 1st day, and yesterday went crazy going after the mysis when i fed. So i'm very happy about that. Currently in a 22gal with a 2" potters angel, a few PVC fittings and a tupperware filled with sand. They will continue to be monitored this week, then Sunday I will begin cupramine treatment for 2 weeks, followed by a 1 week prazi treatment, then another 2-4 weeks of observation before going into my DT. Nothing goes into my tank without treatment.

She is a female, I would be careful with the copper treatment for the leopard, I know they are very sensitive fish. There are better experts on here with much more knowledge about the leopards than me. I researched this thread before buying my female meleagris leopard. I know a lot of guys treat the prazi pro but not copper. My leopard is fat and happy and is one of my favorite fish. When I upgrade from my 90 gallon I will definately be getting more.

Cool thanks for the ID, i was able to figure out it being a meleagris, but had not read up on sexing her yet.
I've done cupramine treatments in the past, on my current yellow coris wrasse and 2 clowns. And before that on a desjardini tang. So i think i'll be ok. And I know there was ich in the system she came from, so I gotta treat.

This has been a great thread that I finally finished reading through. I am thinking of a bipartitus or an ornatus. When I'm ready to pull the trigger I'll probably let DD decide for me by which ever they get in first. I'm setting up a 180g now to upgrade my 55g and will be the first fish I purchase and get settled in before I move on to my other planned fish purchases.
I've picked up a lot of tips so thank you to all that have posted here. One thing I've not seen is how well do these fish do with sand sifting and stirring creatures. I noticed in one post that a few have pistol shrimps but what about things like a fighting Conch? I also notice that Dave has mentioned bristle worms but wouldn't that be a concern too for the ones that get really big?
