Nice shots, how come you don't have any recent shots with all 12 T-5's on? Maybe we can get a shot sometime? I'm curious to see what the corals look like with all the lights on. The actinic shots look awesome!

Ricky - The FTSs posted are with 8 of 12 lights on, including a couple white bulbs (only 2 of the 8 are actinic). The reason I don't shoot with the full 12 lights is because its really tough to shoot -- its so bright the pics come out overexposed. I'll try to snap another FTS will all 12 on soon.

Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't know you had the white bulbs on, the shots look very blue. Would you say your bulb combo looks like a 20K MH when all 12 bulbs are on?

yup, its definitely a 20k look (maybe even with more blue "pop"). I run 6 ATI blue plus bulbs, which give it an awesome blue coloration IMO.

Really what are the other bulbs? How many white do you run and what brand?

6 ATI Blue Plus
2 Sfiligoi Actinic
1 ATI Aquablue Special
1 Aquascience Special
1 UV Aquasun
1 Fiji Purple (these are actually a very white bulb, with slight purple tint)

Nice picks Mike. I really like this one. Where did you pick it up at?

Swallowtail Angel - I love the subtle beauty of this fish.

IMGP2811.JPG

Mcliffy, if i am not mistaken, your angel is actually a female Blackspot Angel (Genicanthus melanospilos) and not a Swallowtail Angel (Genicanthus semifasciatus).I might be wrong. Gorgeous fish nonetheless.

13threefmaniac is right, I thought they were one in the same too. Most online dealers state them as Japanese also known as blackspot angelfish. My fish was even on the stores shipping list as a Japanese swallow tail. It is funny how names get passed along to different fish in the same family. Great fish though and now searching for a mail Black spot angel of false male swallowtail.

Oh no!! You've just added a new name to the list. If the name False Swallowtail pops up anywhere in a few months time at least we'll know who started it. Angels like the Blackspot and Swallowtail are not so much of a rarity in my country. And they don't cost nearly as much either. I wonder whether all Genicanthus angels are sexually dimorphic? Definitely considering adding a pair of either the Swallowtail, Blackspot or Watanabei when my tank is up and running.

I guess none of us are wrong then. Do you have a male? and if not do you plan on purchasing one in the near future?
Btw, thanks for the SketchUp links again.. i think i'm hooked on the darn thing now.

no prob, sketchup is easy once you get going, cant wait to see your build get going.

no male, but the LFS has a pair of Genicanthus melanospilos (JR, don't snag them from me ;) ), or I've been eyeing a male Genicanthus semifasciatus that atlantis has for sale.

off topic, but what kind of law are you studying? I graduated law school 2 years ago here in the states and am doing intellectual property law (mainly patents) right now.

I've already started a thread. I would post the link here but i have no idea how to do so...yet. Will be a couple of weeks before any actual construction work starts. I'm still in the process of finalizing my designs, equipment etc etc.

Since your female is a Melanospilos, you may be able to form a small harem by adding the pair. Although i'm quite sure the Reefkeeping article mentioned that they don't live in harems like other angels. I think i've got my heart set on a pair of Watanebe angels. They stay under 6 inches which is the main reason i like them.

I'm only in my second year.. doing UK law...the LLB to be precise. I'm currently doing Tort, Land, Trust, Company and Commercial Law. Pretty interesting thus far but Land is a real PITA!!! I prefer law in the States... i feel it has much more structure to it mainly due to your written constitution. Too many loose ends around with English Law.

This shot is a few weeks old, but I just forgot to post it - right side aquascape:

And lastly, some top down actinic/blue plus shots that I took this morning while feeding corals. Finally got a decent shot of the sunset for Pat ;)

Nice rebound so far Mike, it looks awesome. The simplicity of that angel is nice. It seems like it would keep the attention on the tank, rather than one single fish.
