Cool... Are you really familiar with those regulators on the CO2 tanks? I'm not an expert on them, but it sounds like you may have released a LOT of pressurized CO2 when you opened that valve...
No reactor could take the potential pressure that could be released...something would have to give out.
Or..you might have a defective regulator which allowed tank pressure to go straight out to the reactor.

Its probably similar, I'm using Randy's 2-part DIY CA/Alk.
From what I've read, I thought weekly water changes do the trick maintaining the ionic balance. I'm at about 2 ml/gal - what problems would I see if the ionic balance is off?

notice the eurobracing is different - since this is in-wall I'm opting for structural rigidity over a little aesthetics.

Yup, he is one of the two that had an AO tank split at the seems right? (the other being asnatlas) I read through those threads and it seemed to be because of their eurobracing design, where the are glued against each other, instead of overlapping. One of my specific conditions for the tank was that the eurobracing be overlapping...check out the schematic vs. the pic of the tank they built with the wrong overflow, and you'll see the difference. The way they normally do it looks nice, but seems MUCH less solid than overlapping the braces.

I've seen that you have a somewhat downsized tank in the works now?
