I know I have my thread going about a very similar project, but i thought I'd check in here too. Why did you go with black silicone instead of the normal clear? just for looks? I'd really like to stop by and see your setup, like I said, since mine is so close to what you ended up doing. Hopefully I'll see you this weekend.

bues - PMed you about this weekend. Once you've seen the black silicon you won't ever want the clear stuff again ;)

Hey mcliffy2, sorry to ask this here (gave up on my build thread since its not getting any love from anyone..lol) but would you happen to have an opinion on dimmable Stealth v non dimmable stealth? Is it worth paying the extra moolah for the dimmable version?

mcliffy, very nice FTS! any plans on adjusting the angle/strength of the flow to prevent the sand dune revealing the glass bottom? are you waiting for CC to cover it? maybe you could superglue some sand particles over it so it'll look like a sandhill.

Funny you should ask, my 4th vortech came back from repair so I finally have all 4 going at once. I had a couple Tunze nanostreams I'd thrown in for the timebeing. They were on the back wall facing the front. I removed the nanostreams and put 3 vortechs on the side wall pointing long ways, and 1 vortech at the far end of the tank pointing shortways at 70%. This is giving me great random flow and it seems to have fixed the flow problem so the sandbed is staying in place :)

bought a 4th at MACNA, but it turned out to be defective (only ran at low speed, 500 gph), so I sent it in, now I've got 4, need to update the sig :) The flow in there is nuts now...

No waves really because you need to have them on opposing sides for that. I have a couple on Lagoon and a couple on Reef Crest so its just very randomized flow.

4 vortechs AND a stable sandbed? that takes some serious skills!

Snapped a few pics tonight. I picked up a baby 1.5" emperor angel and a couple female bartletts anthias. Amazing how much my male bartletts has colored up since I added the femaies.

Aussie acan from MACNA:

Here's the baby emporer, he has a bit of a wound from his introduction to the tank, but is eating well, being left alone by the other fish and hopefully will be ok.

wmilas - you are welcome to come by and we'll cut you some frags anytime.

murfman - thats a huge compliment. I'm eager to see how your tank turns out.

Love the Barletts and Emp. additions!

Barletts are #1 choice for anthia in my new tank, but I've heard they'll switch to male and wipe each other out over time...I'm hoping this isn't always the case. Regardless, great pick-ups!

Stun - thanks much. I had 3 bartletts (1 m, 2 f) before the velvet incident. A female was one of the 2 survivors, and she changed to a male when she became the only bartlett in the tank. I'll keep you updated on the 2 females, but I'm crossing my fingers. FWIW I've got a male hawaiin bicolor anthias in there as well, and he is almost identical in bodyshape and coloration to the bartlett male, except the yellow is replaced by orange. There is some aggression between the males, but its intermittent and at other times they are friends. From observing these two interact, I imagine in a large tank, 2 or maybe more male bartletts could co-exist.

Mike beautiful new corals, especially new acans, I would like to go to MACNA with you one day.
Aren't you scared about your corals with huge angel in your reef (potentially huge one day)?
ps-pm'ed you couple od days ago, still waiting for response :)
