Let's see SPS tank pics from Two-Part Dosers only (including Kalk drippers)!

I am one of those few people that cannot afford a calcium reactor right now. I am dosing CaCl as well as baking soda (along with dripping Kalk) to keep up with the demand of my SPS, but I have never seen how other's tanks fare with dosing this method.

Also, if you post a pic can you give a little details about your tank.

1. Tank Size
2. Amount of CaCl dosed (per day or otherwise)
3. Amount of baking soda dosed
4. Amount of Magnesium or any other supplements dosed
5. Water change ritual

Thanks for posting! :)

1. 46g
2. I drip Kalk 24/7, 1 tsp/gallon.
3. Can't remember the last time I had to adjust with CaCl or buffer.
4. Use water changes to supplement Mag and all other trace.
5. 10% weekly changes

Dripping the Kalk is so much easier than two part IME. Don't have to constantly test to make sure your Ca/Alk are balanced and it's much easier to maintain very stable levels, I haven't done a Ca test in a long time. I check the Alk and if it's 8 - 8.3, I know the Ca is 420. Sorry habib... less $$$ for you :)

How often do you have to mix up the kalk? Doesn't it lose it's potency after being mixed because of exposure to air?

I just set up my 2 channel dosing pump last week. All was well until Sunday morning, when I woke up to this

I spent the entire day doing water changes. I have no idea what went wrong with the pump, I just can't figure it out.

Yikes :eek1: not a good thing to wake up to :(

I mix the Kalk in gallon jugs [with lids of course] and my dripper is airtight except for a small pin hole to avoid a vacuum effect.

kalk doesnt' loose it's potency as long as its kept covered ime

did you have both outputs of the dosing pump close by? if so that would lead to ca precipitation; i clouded my tank a few weeks ago by being an idiot and turning the litermeter on to top off and forgetting about it. i put 2-3 gallons of kalkwasser into my 90, coudn't see two inches into the tank. my ph got up to 9.5+, but no losses or even recession. i did one small water change.

i use kalk and two part on both my tanks, the 180 was requring a large amount of two part, but the addition of a powerhead to mix up my kalk container once a day along with a bit of vinegar has kept my alk at 3.5 for two weeks now. no more two part there.

my 90 gets some two part, as i haven't hooked up a powerhead to mix up the kalk yet, so its not quite meeting the demand. i also have more sps/gallon in the 90.

kalk doesnt' loose it's potency as long as its kept covered ime; i mix up as much as my container can hold, currently a bit less than 20 gallons, lasts about 3-4 days on the 180.

Can Kalk be mixed with tank water? I'm thinking about switching to a kalk reactor, but to keep it as simple as possible, I'd want to mix it with tank water instead of RO water like a Calcium reactor. Would that work?

I think it works best with RO/DI water because if you mix it with tank water you'll get alot of precipitation. I'm sure it can be done but not the best way of dosing.

I don't think it loses it's potency, but it has something to do with precipitation.

I used Kent 2 part for years and have been using randy's for probably at least a year. I am using ~ 100ml of each a day right now. No Mg other than in every 2 or 3 week water changes of 20 gallons or so on a 140 gallon system. I ran a kalk dispenser on the old tank and haven't gotten around to setting up my kalk reactor on this one.

Mine is still on the younger side,(1yr). I just got a doser and plan on going that route for awhile using Randy's formula.

Great lookin tanks guys! I never get a chance to see these kinds of results from two-part dosers as all the reefers I know have reactors.

This is givin me hope! :)
