Let's see SPS tank pics from Two-Part Dosers only (including Kalk drippers)!

Very nice Stuckey_T I love seeing pics of that tank. Can't wait to see the new tank up and running...

Here is the new 300 gallon tank I had to build to make sure I've got more room again

Here's a couple pics of how things looked when the 150 gallon first started and before it grew out of control

Good Thread -
Dosing only Randy's 2-part here. You will be surpised at how much I'm using. Heavily stocked SPS 120 gal tank.
150 total Gal system.
I use a single dosing pump for my Alk. I mix Randy's standard Recipe 1, making up 1 gallon of the solution as he recommends. I then pour the whole gallon into an approx 12 gallon container and dose at a rate of 40ml/hour. Not sure on the accuracy of the dosing pump, the solutions lasts between 3 and 4 weeks before I have to do it all over again.
Alk stays VERY constant at 7.8 - 8.0 DKH.
I am extremly happy with this arrangement, I dont have to touch it for about a month.

For Calcium. I am just now getting a good handle and am amazed at how much I am using to stay at 420 ppm. I'm using Dowflake - I mix the one gallon as suggested in Randy's Recipe #1. I pour 24 ounces into a container and let it sit in the stand next to the sump. Very easy, I just pour a little in per day, maybe 8 ounces. I need to fill the container twice per week, I use Sunday as my starting point. I need to add 48 ounces per Week to stay at 420ppm, that's over 1400ml if your counting. I'm thinking about making up a stronger solution, but there is really no point to it. I may just make up a bigger batch.

MG is easy as stated by others. I make up a solution as per Randy's Recipe, and just add it to my Water Changes.

Great method, I may need to start something like this. Since I just recently upgraded tanks, I still haven't calculated the amount of Ca and Alk my tank consumes (pure laziness). I also hate having to check levels after water changes to make sure they're the same as before.

1. 46G/150l
2. 25ml, dry powder mixed with of water, every 1/3 days and dripped in
3. 15ml, dry and mixed with water for 2/3 days, dripped in
4. 50ml, MgCl2, and 1 tsp of Strontium weekly
5. about 25l/week is replaced by wet skimming and syphoning

Do you monitor your Mg and strontium levels? Why dose strontium anyways? Also, that seems like a pretty heavy dose of Mg?

Awesome Tanks Chris!!! Any pictures of any corals I had sent you??? When I get the camera out on my new tank I'll show you some of the ones you sent me :)

Troy

I haven't gotten any good pics of those corals yet. My camera stinks at getting decent pics of individual corals. I'll give it a shot when I get the chance. A couple are definately some of my favorites. Your tank is looking great by the way:D Do I see a few familiar faces?
Chris

sacramentodots---> When you go from DSB to BB your Cal/alk demands can drop by as much as 30-40% so keep an eye on it so you don't overdose.

Hef, that is a beautiful photo. Do you have a thread on your tank, a full tank shot, or can you at least tell me more about it?

Great tanks everyone!! I just got a dosing pump for my 2 part, this should make my life simpler.

Sorry no pics, it's still mostally frags anyway, but growing fast :)

I used Kent 2 part for years and have been using randy's for probably at least a year. I am using ~ 100ml of each a day right now. No Mg other than in every 2 or 3 week water changes of 20 gallons or so on a 140 gallon system. I ran a kalk dispenser on the old tank and haven't gotten around to setting up my kalk reactor on this one.

hth, Chris

Show off!!!

STUCKEY....nice setup to B and the 150 looks like its growing quite well.

i see you use a CR as well as dosing??
how many mls are you currently dosing?

time to scrap the glass!

For those of you who use dosing pumps for 2 part, which one(s) are you using?
I have a 50 gallon without a Ca++ reactor, dosing 2 part but would like to automate it.
TIA,
Ben

I use a Litermeter III now but I dosed manually for years.

I checked that out fishdoc but man, $$$ for dual pumps. What volume are you dosing per day? I think I'll be somewhere under 100ml.
Thanks for the help

I am right around 100ml plus kalk with topoff. The only reason I bought the Litermeter is I happened to have the $ to blow on the tank at the time and I wanted something that I wouldn't have to mess with. If you look around you can find medical pumps for pretty cheap.....around $60 - $100 or so. You may have to fool with them a little more disabling the autoshutoff thingy etc....but from what I have read they are very reliable.
Chris

Thanks for the info Chris. Dosing manually is getting to be a pain. Miss a few days here and there and what do you know, Ca++=350, alk=5.4 dkh.
I've seen some threads with Japanese or European tanks that have those nice little bottles all lined up with tubing coming out of them. Do you or anyone else know what they use for pumps.
Thanks,
Ben
