So I have a question about pairing. Got both my watchman and pistol shrimp this weekend. Arrived at the house in separate bags. Got them acculmated in the same bucket and seemed to be bonding. Put them in the tank let them be for the rest of the day. Came home and both were in the same spot so I'm thinking to myself, yes they are paired up. Well, wake up today and the watchman is out and about no where near the shrimp and I noticed the shrimp had moved. So the day goes on and still the watchman is just chilling on one side and the shrimp on the other.

My question is, is this normal in yalls experience? I know it's only been a day I just want other peoples stories.

Mine actually did the same for a day or two when I first got them but now there fine

Did they ever end up pairing?
There's been a few experiments to see how they find each other but from my observation it has to do with the antennae of the shrimp. Like when a cleaner shrimp causes certain fish to look like they are being tickled and stunned at the same time, I think pistol shrimps seem to have a certain effect on their goby. I've noticed that gobies flick their tail to caution the shrimp when danger is near, but do not seem to do it when there is no shrimp present.

Well Here was my Dracula Goby and Bulls eye Pistol. Unfortuantly The Dracula Goby managed his way out of my tank even with the glass top. I added a Randals Goby hoping they pair but I hear bulls eyes dont often pair up. Blah

That's an awesome picture on the vase tank.

I have a 29 Gallon Biocube and am looking for a Goby/Shrimp Combo. I'd prefer to get 2 different sand goby and hopefully 2 shrimp.

Are there some goby's that do better w/ others of similar species? I remember my Yellow Watchman I had forever wasn't too keen on sharing space with others lol.

I have a pair of Wheelers Gobies who live in a harmony with two pistol shrimps. The shrimps are continually busy working on burrow maintainence and bring tasty morsels to the surface of the sandbed.
My Copperband butterfly has cottoned on to this and spends hours hanging around the shrimps and gobies picking up the goodies as they are bought to light. It is great to watch the little group together.
Here is a link to a youtube video that shows a bit of todays activity.

My pair of Stonogobiops nematodes (Hi-Fin Goby) is living with a pair of Alpheus randalli (Randall's Pistol Shrimp).

One interesting thing that I have observed is that the shrimps are also functioning as cleaner shrimps for the gobies if needed.

Hey everyone, great pics/pairs! Just wondering, how do you get multiple gobies to share a cave together with one pistol shrimp? I want a 200 gallon reef with 4 inches of live sand, i was going to just have three separate pairs of goby, shrimp but i want other burrowing fish as well (wrasses, jawfish etc)
