Let's see your sump and plumbing

I picked up one of the cheap Mag12 so I changed my sump plan to have the return be the middle compartment. Also decided to use a SCWD becasue the mag12 will probably be to powerful for my system by itself.

From my revised sump picture above, what if I just got rid of the third compartment designated the refugium area. My tank is bare bottom if that matters. Would a 30" long tank be to long for just a euroreef 5-2 and mag12 pump?

Keep the fuge. Good idea to have one. Your design looks very similar to my 30L. Bump up the size of the plumbing from the Mag12 to at least 1".

This is what I am thinking for mine so far. It will go in my stand as well. Pumps, chiller, and rodi is going to be outside. I was going to do the setup with the return in the middle of a fuge and skimmer section. I then decided to make a prop section that will also be more room for stuff:D Any input welcome!

I've really thought about the fuge and I'm not sure what purpose it's going to serve for my set-up. I'm not going to have sand and anything growing will just collect poop and make it hard to syphon out the sump.

Fuge is to grow macro which is another way to filter water and remove excess nutrients. You dont need anything else in it.

All I am planning in mine is cheto and nothing else. Plants use phosphate and nitrates as food. They grow and use up the junk in the tank...you prune the green stuff and that removes the junk from the tank :D

Quick question about baffles width. How much of a gap width wise do you have your baffles cut?

I just finished my sump yesterday!! I will post a thread here this week (I hope) on how it went, along with some pictures.

I went with 2" spacing, 1.5" off the bottom for the middle baffle. I also used a filter sock for the incoming water.

I have a Euro Reef RS5-3 in there as well....so far it's working great, no micro bubbles.

Here are some shots unser my new tank, and the CL too, in case you're interested.

Here's my new set-up.

I built the stand (40" tall) and moved my tank etc. over the weekend. I still have some work to do but, not much. The doors are matching word frames w/ glass centers. It looks pretty trick ;) Here it is w/out the doors.

How close to the top of your sump does water get when the return is shut off? I think I might need a bigger one just finished the plumbing this week, I have maybe about 1/2" till I flood the floor :)
