Looking for scholarly/college book on disease

Can anyone recommend an in-depth, medical grade book, probably a college book, which has photo ID under microscope, slide methods, treatments, and mode of contamination? This will most likely be a reference and or college level veterinary medicine book. I'm hoping to find a used one some where, but need a good title to start with. Searches turn up a myriad, but I don't want to pay hundreds for a book that isn't sufficient. Thanks

Fish Disease: Diagnosis and Treatment by Dr. Edward J Noga.

Captive Seawater Fishes: Science and Technology by Dr. Stephen Spotte

Neither is cheap, both are excellent; however, these are college level and not "easy reading" hobbyist books

+1 Noga's second addition is not a hobbyist book, but full of great information

Noga is a good starting point, but because it also covers freshwater diseases it can be a bit hard to find something quickly and most info is rather condensed.

I would definitely supplement it with research articles (Google Scholar) to get more in-depth coverage.

BTW, the internet can be a great source of information as well if you know how to filter out the noise and misinformation. I would suggest Google scholar for searching. Unfortunately there you need to have an idea of what you are dealing with.

There are also some quite decent sites with overviews to help ID diseases.

True scholarly book often require often a decent knowledge of biology and ichthyology to understand them.

I just rediscovered thread. I haven't gotten either book yet. I am not shy of scholarly books. In fact I prefer them when it comes to research material.

i would really like to have a book on hand with parasite, disease, and general information but I would like it to be up to date. Has anything been released fairly recently or updated?

Few books are truly up to date with the latest research.
On top of that, scholarly books on the topic often assume that the user has a background in the fields of ichtiology, parasitology, aquaculture,... and of course access to microscopes and other diagnostic tools.

These kind of books are a good addition to get a deeper understanding but seldom ideal for initial disease/parasite identification if you have not at least some idea of what it might be.

If you want more and up-to-date info on specific parasites and diseases I would recommend searching for those on Google scholar. I found a lot there, especially on the infections we deal the most with, because they are often also the ones commercial fish farms are most plagued with.
