I shot this pic of my Montipora setosa

and the next day I shot this one:

#2 feels stronger to me but 1 is neat too, imho.

Thanks everyone.

I particularly like how the Blue Voodoo shot turned out.

The last pic of the acan was a bit of a challenge and I'm not entirely happy with it but as is the case with all images that give me trouble or issues, it's been a good learning experience for me. I've very happy with the form of the image, it is the excessive green that is a problem for me.

That acan is incredibly green and like grape jelly purple. It sits under the shelf of a plating Monti cap so it's a bit shaded. My first attempts at post processing yielded this unholy glowing green thing and all I could figure is that I overexposed the green in the original image capture. I've had lots of times where I've overexposed white / light color growing tips on acros, but never so much of a non white color so pervasively in the image. Makes me wonder if one can overexpose black?

In hindsight what I should do is man up, shoot in full manual and stop hobbling around like Tiny Tim on my Av crutch. I need to push myself out of my comfort zone.

What I did instead was to discard my first attempts and reimport the RAW file reducing the exposure considerably. That toned down the green to essentially realistic levels, but in doing so it also darkened the oral disks of the polyps to the point where the delicious detail was being darkened. So this image is a compromise between realistically green and visible polyp faces.

I love the purple lipstick on each of the polyp mouths!

Obviously not a photography question ;) but do you spot feed each polyp or do you just feed a couple when you go to feed?

From what I know of acans, you can feed one head and the whole colony gets benefitted from that?

Every time I feed my acans I think about what you are asking. I've heard the same as you. It well could be true.

What I like to do is drop some food into each polyp that has tentacles out screaming "feed me!". :D

And how many times a week do you have to feed? Reason I'm asking all these questions is I'm planning on shutting down my big FOWLR eventually and going to the reef sides of things. That's actually how I got started in the hobby was a 75g reef tank. Anyway, when I redo a reef I'd like to be able to keep quite a few acans in there and other easy to feed corals. I dont want to have to feed daily though, I'm looking for good LPS that can go for at least 3-4 days between feedings.

I don't think there's a set answer for how often one HAS to feed. My Trachyphyllia, acans, chalices, Favites and palys (not an lps obviously but some of mine do accept target feeding and I feed them when I feed my lps) could go for a month without being fed. I prefer to feed them every three days or roughly twice a week. While they would accept food more often, if I feed more frequently it accelerates unwanted algaes. Plus I'm getting very good growth and color as it is. One author I read suggested their Trachy had better color being fed only once a week.

RB - seems like with some pretty quick masking you could tone down the greens in only the areas you wanted. Did you try that at all?
Oh, and your images are awesome.
