Malu or Aurora?

It's been spitting out big clumps of black pellets since I bought it on Sat. Started cipro treatment on Sunday night. Only caught it deflating once or twice. Sometimes the mouth would be open. I would be more optimistic of it living if only it would stop expelling.

What do u guys think it is? Malu or aurora? The LFS said it belongs to the "sebae family".

Also, has anyone here treated malu's or aurora's before with positive results?

Looks like aurora to me. A bit bleached though. I think aurora is less demanding than other sebaes.

It's terribly bleached. Give it some time. Aurora is slightly hardier than other sebaes.

Measure your water closely.

Yup, it's totally bleaching in qt with the cipro treatment . Ive treated gigs and mags in the past, and the deflation/expelling usually went hand in hand. This one doesn't deflate, which is strange. Does this mean that it doesn't have any bacterial infection?

Malu or Aurora?

I really just threw my anemones in my tank after acclimation and they grew big...I have no experience in cipro treatment. So sorry I can't offer much help here.

But I read a lot about it. Every anemone reacts differently to cipro treatment. Sometimes it doesn't work at all... Yours, other than it's bleached, looks healthy to me.

But I have cipro at home and know the process. Unless I see signs of infection, I personally wouldn't use it.

If I got one Aurora I might just have had thrown it into my tank the same way I did in the past to be honest...[emoji24][emoji23]

my fisrt impression is H. aurora........

Aurora lives in the Sand Flat..........sometimes the light is not strong......due depth.......maybe bleaching came from overexposure to strong light......

try something more more blue spectrum.......with a bit of red.....

That's an H. Malu........those rings on the the tentacles in your pic are nothing like the beaded/knobbed shape of H. Aurora.

As your nem gets darker/healthier and the tentacles expand a lot of those rings won't be seen.

I think it is a Malu also. However, you need to get this anemone to regain his health before we can tell for sure. Sometime, unhealthy anemone have such drastic changes in their appearance from the norm.

Thanks for everyones responses, but the nem did not make it through qtn darnit. Either way, malu or aurora, I wouldnt have cared bc the color on it was just amazing.
