Ok here is my take after playing around with this for a while and comparing to a few others.
What makes a dosing pump? Not much actually. A pump head, a motor and a timer. Having said that, I have had a chance to compare the head units from a Babyfish, Bubble Magnus and a GHL unit. They all use the same pumps and can actually be clipped from one to the other. The other three units have a slightly larger tube and pump a slightly larger volume however this puts more stress on the motor so basically I would say the Marine Magic wins in this department.
Noise, not silent but the quietest of the bunch and I would say the only one I would want in a bedroom if the unit kicks in when I am sleeping. This is most likely due to the pump head volume being slightly less as only the pump head makes any noise, motors and electronics are virtually silent on all.
Motors, well what can I say as there are no markings but, seeing they run maybe a minute a day they should last years without issue.
Adjustability. This is a cool feature but is most easily adjusted adjusted on the Marine Magic unit as it has a knob right on the front panel to tweak each output. Not that being exact really matters all that much but the point is you can. I placed a 10ml vial on the output and pumped water while trying different settings until I was able to get the vial to the exact mark in 30 seconds. Tried it numerous times after adjustment and dead on every time.
Timers, what can I say but totally great as there are completely separate timers for each output making having no less than 32 on times for each day. Not that you will ever need it but hey, you can. Each one has it's own clock and each on time set can be whatever you choose. Basically the flexibility is more than you will ever need
Personally I have 6 doses a day set for each timer. I have the off time (one global setting to control the duration it will run after it starts. Each clock has it's own off time setting) set to lets say 15 seconds which by doing a little simple math and knowing I set it for 10ml/30 seconds comes to 5ml. Basically it will now dose 6 times a day at 5ml per dose for a total of 30ml. Lets assume this timer is my calcium supplement but I find calcium levels are a little low little. Easy as pie, I just set the off time of this timer to run a little longer such as going from 15 seconds to 18 seconds or whatever you choose.
Parts, This unit is the only one where parts are available real cheap. As mentioned, the parts are interchangeable with others. Lets take the popular Bubble Magnus, $35 plus shipping for a replacement head. I just purchased 3 spare heads for the MM unit for $40 delivered. I have spoken with an ebay seller and all parts are available for these units no matter which you need. Nobody can guarantee they will be forever but I have a feeling this is going to be a very popular unit and parts should be available for a very long time.
All in all the unit is a winner especially for the ridiculously low price compared to anything else out there. I have no problem whatsoever recommending this unit to even my best friend.
