Marineland Marine series tanks

Thanks for the info.

I was quoted $1,724 today for the 300, including the Starfire front, which sounds in line then. That is a pretty good deal for that size tank, compared to the cost of custom jobs. It may not be exactly apples to apples, but it helps keep me out of the dog house at home.

Is been four years since I had to break down my old system and it finally looks like I might be headed for a new build. its been way too long!

yeah, i originally had a quote of 1500, and to expand the drain holes to 1.5" and returns to 1", and add 5 1" closed loop holes bumped it up to 2500.

how much crap is that.

What is the actual glass thickness of the 250 and 300 gallon tanks? I saw some last week and it looked like 1/2" to me, but I saw people mention 3/4". Maybe the bottom is thicker? All the sides looked like 1/2 though.

Ouch!! I was thinking of something similar.

ok, good. I'm looking at having a tank built about the same dimensions and wanted to see what they did for glass. I'm sure the bottom is tempered for strength though. nice, nice.

hmm i've also checked out these tanks , for those of you that bought the stand is it made of solid wood? or plywood? i saw a set at my lfs and the stand looks like it's made of plywood and the design doesn't look like it will hold a tank that size fully loaded for long. that is my main concern. miracles quoted me 3000 for a tank with the same dimensions as the 250 but i will need a stand buying the marineland stand will save me a lot of trouble any way to reinforce it?

You are correct, it is made of plywood. You won't need to reinforce the stand. It is made to the correct specifications to support the weight of the tank and the stuff you put in it. Most of the stands that you see built on here are way over engineered. This is done mostly because not everyone on here is a structral engineer. It is easier to build a stand out of 2x4 than it is to build a stand like the store bought version as well. You can build a 2x4 stand with a circular saw and a screw gun. I wouldn't be concerned about the factory stands they are very strong.

I saw one at my LFS but didn't look too closely at the hood. I did see that the front two doors flip up but does anyone know if the side open? I would like to know how easy it is to get to the rear corner overflow. I guess you could just lift the whole thing off but I'm not sure how heavy it is. Still contemplating building my own. I'm not keen on the visibility of the overflow from the side. After all it's a square tank so you would want to view it from the sides as well. If I built a hood it would have a hinged cover to hide the overflow.

was the stand built? or did you guys have to build it yourselves because no way taht is going to fit through my door

The stand (and tank) is sized to fit through a standard 3'-0" x 6'-8" door (which is why the tanks is only 27" tall and the stand is so low). It's 30" high I believe and some have said it's too low for viewing while standing up (which I agree with). The LFS has it sitting up on a 6" plinth so you can view it comfortably without stooping.

Okay since water testing my used acrylic tank I saw some blemishes in the top seam that made me a bit uneasy so......
I will be ordering the Marineland 300 gallon tank!!!

It will be inwall so I want the front to be Starfire. I also want black silicone. It looks so nice on my Oceanic cube.

Where will you be ordering your tank from? I checked Marineland's web site for local distributors here in Winston-Salem area and they show every small fish store and every PetsMart that don't even sell saltwater fish. They only list one LFS that does mainly saltwater. I am told that any of there dealers can special order the tank. Are you going to shop around and see what prices you are quoted?
Thanks

Saw the Marine series 150/200 tanks

Saw the Marine series 150/200 tanks

At a LFS I saw the Marineland Marine series tank along with oceanic tanks, all-glass, perfecto, CAD, nanocubes, aquapods, etc. The Marineland tanks are more solid looking, thicker glass and have better made stands, especially compared to oceanic.

I just received a quoted from my LFS
36x36 with second overflow and Starfire on three sides -- $1350
48x36 (comes with two overflows as standard) Starfire on three sides -- $1500
The larger tank looks very inviting at that price.

Those prices seem kinda high. I was quoted $1500 for the 60x36x27 with starfire on 3 sides and $1775 for the 72x36x27 with starfire on 3 sides. You might want to try a couple more places to make sure you're getting the best deal.

It depends when you buy them.

If you buy one right after or before a trade show, they are much cheaper.

The manufacturer gives deep discounts durring these shows, and more times than not, they extend it to their customers.

Also, they ran huge discounts when they unveiled them, and occasionally you can get them for that price

a great price on the 300 is 1500.

Where do you get a quote from? The only LFS in my area that is listed as a Marineland dealer was the one I got a quote from. Marineland lists other stores in the area but all are just regular pet stores like PetsMart.
