Marineland Marine series tanks

Cost of additional holes?

Cost of additional holes?

I know that Marineland will do a limited amount of customizing. Does anyone know how much drilling some extra holes, like for a closed loop, might cost?

Thanks!

I don't think it is worth it on a tank that size IMHO. The glass will not be very thick and starfire does not make that much of a difference.

I wanted to know how much it would cost. I think it's worth it, as I have seen it up close and to me it made a big difference

I would guess that you are looking at only a difference of 100 to 200 dollars.

Thanks. Not bad at all, I will probably order one with starphire on the 4 sides, since this tank will be intended to be viewed from all sides.

Thanks....

Another question.....

I was told by a fish store owner that the 1/2" glass for a 300 gallon will bow.... is there any truth to that??

I don't know about anyone else but I'm having a heck of a time trying to find anyone in the Phoenix area that will get me a 300.

The 1/2" glass for a 300 gallon will bow - 0.015 inches by my calculations. Any glass in any tank bows, the thing to remember is can you really tell. Since the same thickness of glass is used for a 250 and a 300, it seems obvious that with a tank 12 inches longer, the bowing will be more ovbious to the naked eye. Put a long straight edge on any tank of size and I'd bet it's not perfect when filled.

When a tank bows, isnt it bowing top to bottom, not side to side?

Isnt that why if you go with taller tanks, its always a must to go with thicker glass?

not true. The tank will bow along its longest face. If you have a tank that is taller than it is wide, then it will bow top to bottom. Think of a long, thin sheet of plywood. It is more likely for it to bow along the major edge than the minor edge. The reason why you need to go to a thicker glass with a taller tank, is because the water pressure is dependent on the depth of water. If you dive to the bottom of a 5 foot pool, you don't have nearly the pressure as diving to the bottom of a 10 foot pool.

You can increase the other dimensions of the tank greatly without a drastic change to glass thickness, but increasing the depth means a huge change to glass thickness because the pressure increases.

I was quoted $1699 today for the 300 with front starphire but i am looking for a peninsular tank with the 2 overflows evenly spaced on one end and starphire on the 2 long sides and 1 short side. I will try and get in contact with them to find out $ and if it is possible. I have another quote for $1800 for a 72x36x25 from glasscages with the 3 starphire sides to my specs with black silicone. If it is a comparable price i will go with the marineland.

This is a silly question, but here it goes......The price for the Marine land 300g; is that for just the tank or does it include the stand and canopy. I was wondering because I've been thinking about the 300g too!

Thanks,
Shawn

That's just the tank. My 300 is on order from FAOIS on Oldsmar Florida. It will be an in wall, so Starphire only on the front. Each end, near the back wall, about 6 inches down from the top, is being drilled for three 2" holes. I'll use an internal, short overflow box, with half in/half out dursos.

I was quoted by That Pet Place in Pa
300 gal tank 72x36x27 starfire on 3 sides 1599 stand 860
250 gal tank 60x36x27 starfire on 3 sides 1313 stand 720
200 gal tank 48x36x27 starfire on 3 sides 1155 stand 600

I'm outside of Phoenix, AZ and was quoted
300 gal tank 72x36x27 starfire on 3 sides = $2071.00

I sure mine is higher because of of the cost to ship to Arizona

The 300 gallon tank takes up two pallets in a truck that has to be shipped from Noblesville , Indiana

So has anyone actually ordered a custom made 300 yet? I am waiting to get a quote for 2 long sided starphire and 1 short side as a peninsular with a single overflow on the one end with 2 x 1.5" bulkheads for drains. I want the starphire but i really want to get deeper than 25".

All i know is that my garage door is a little over 31", i believe most standard exterior doors are close to 32" and i also have a sliding glass door if necessary but it is in the back of the house.
