I am glad you're doing well mate, if you need any help dont hesitate to give me a shout. Did you get your "nemo's"?...or did you buy a book instead? :spin2: lol

Ok, a little update.

After the walls were tiled I moved on to the floor. 400kgs of leveling compound later ( thanks to "boggit & scarper" builders ) and I was able to sort out the ply sub floor. I had various off-cuts left from the tank so the floor has a good 18mm ply sub floor.

Once I had figured out the jigsaw puzzle I lifted the boards and added a layer of insulation

I didnt take any photos of the tiling, I just got it done. I hate tiling! and I am only about 40% done :headwallblue:

Once the floor tiles were laid I finished the bottom row of the walls and grouted everything.

With the tiling done I have positioned the 440w UV where it will sit so I could work out the work surface that will sit above it.

The small sink and taps have arrived so I should be able to install those at the weekend.

off-topic: where's Dave.M???
Lurking. I hate to put any more pressure on Matt than what he is already going through. This looks to be a spectacular build, and I'm sure we can count on Matt to put something together that we can all be amazed by.

Hello Matt, (D3hree),

In your thread post #139, back May 3, 2011 you had planned and illustrated a sloped fall in your overflow box to help or minimize noise. Was wondering how well did things work out? Do you know of others who may have tried it? Anyone do it out of glass? and into a rear exterior overflow box?

I am sure you have gotten rave reviews for your renderings, many so life like. You do it for a living, but still an amazing talent. Tilts his hat in acknowledgement.

Hi Creative Guy

Thanks for the compliments
The slope on my weir is in ( i have been tardy with photos of late due to work loads) I thought it was quite a common design, maybe not on the scale of my weir but I have seen many tanks with internal weirs done in this fashion. All out of glass I would say too.
If your not coming out of the base of your tank directly to a sump then it is a great space saver, angling the glass to reduce the splashing noise is an added bonus.
I have to say overflow boxes are not that common over here so I dont think that I can recall seeing an internal weir slope to an overflow box, usually the plumbing would go to from the weir to sump. Here is a drawing I did for a member on a local forum.

I dont see why the angled front of the weir couldnt lead to an overflow depending on how it is done.

Hope that helps

A good friend of mine also has his weir like this. The water sips over the weird comb, the slope is generally full of water passing into the plumbing. Its relatively silent and being in a shallow lagoon tank, its almost completely invisible when viewing from a standing position. You need to bend right down to see into the top corner to see it
Hopefully he won't mind me posting a couple of his pics

I thought I would add a splash of colour to the thread and show you guys/girls pics of some of the corals waiting to go in the tank.

Hi matt just been reading through your thread. You weren't lying when u said u were going to start making this at some point then!!

Popeye

Matt, now that you've showed us some corals there is NO TURNING BACK! :deadhorse1: As soon as we get livestock pictures, its a race to the finish.

Congrats on one of the best projects on RC to date.

Things are coming along nicely Matt!
That UV looks like something from a commercial aquarium! What flow rate are you anticipating through that beast, and how will you pre-filter to prevent killing unwanted livestock?
Absolutely love the coral sneak-peak! That hoke and gomezi look stunning already. :inlove:

this is am amazing build, and Matt, you have got some amazing skills, at graphics, and DIY !!! truly impressed ...

and I gotta admit, pics of the first couple of pages had be tricked too lol hahahah that takes skills !! how about a pic of the complete project, with fish and corals, how you vision it would look in say 1.5 years :P
