Matt's 5000ltr Display

I thought I would add a splash of colour to the thread and show you guys/girls pics of some of the corals waiting to go in the tank.

Frag? do you like to donate it to me??! LOL

AWESOME!

I had been half expecting glass any day now, and a water test to shortly follow that, at least now I know not to expect pudding complete with proof until we have the figgy variety.

I dont quite know what this means?

I had the pleasure of a visit to the build in person today.

When you look at something engineered like this you just know it will not fail.

This really is a great job so far and from what Matt was telling me today the journey is only just beginning. Matt even discussed the layout for the furniture in the room once the tank is up and running and I can see the forward vision going into this project. Following my visit today there's no aspect of it I can find fault with.

Glad to be part of this for you Matt. When the fibreglass goes in you'll be a big step forward in the progress but there's absolutely no rush, not after the painstaking effort gone in so far. I'll be there when you are ready.

Nice to meet you today also.

Thanks Matt, good to meet you finally!

I'm not forgetting that!

Thanks D5HP, I did say "hope" :lmao:

AWESOME!

It's not even in MY tank yet Euler! :spin1:

Another small update.

I cut and shaped the worktop...

...and installed the sink and taps

I installed the extractor fans

and added ceiling tiles

I added some shelving above the sink. This is RO unit #1, 750gpd that will be used for water changes

IMG_6003.jpg

This is RO#2 that is 150gpd that will just be used for top off water.

Now that one half of the fish room is nearly complete I was able to move all my fish related stuff into that area to make space to be able to start on the other half of the room.

IMG_6008.jpg

The other half of the room is actually more like 65% of the space and will be home to the quaranteen tank, frag and breeder tanks and the rest of the filtration.

The first task is to build a stud partition to divide the garage. The aim is to make the fish room as insulated as possible so that i can control the water temperatures as best I can without having to worry about draughts from the garage. Also I want the fish room to be a seperate area to avoid any contaminants getting in the system from the garage.

The "other half" of the fish room looks more familiar to me. I don't believe you can effectively isolate the fish room from the garage if there's going to be a door between the two; perhaps with a double-door system, but not with just one.

I agree Dave (Mr. Positive) however I have significantly reduced the garage area and i doubt I will be working in there anymore! A single door will atleast reduce the chances of saw dust floating in the sump. I hope that the fish room side will be reasonably well insulated so as to not be affected by any draughts from the garage side too.

It's looking really good Matt, i now feel that i have a new 4 foot nano tank cheers for that mate!
I really like the corals you have picked up from Ush some stunners there mate really good choice. That echino wow stunning. You are moving at quite the pace now.

hey Matt, I'm not starting a new discussion overhere, but I wanna your opinion on lighting... have you decide between T5 vs MH+T5 vs LED?

Let's forget about $$$ (upcoming and running costs), heating and other things... what do you think about?

Hi Euler

MH + t5 for me. I liked the look of the orpheck units but with 52" deep I would opt for tight optics which would mean I would need a lot of units to cover the footprint. I worked out the cost including electricity savings and bulb replacement and it would take about 8 years or so to recoup the initial cost of the LEDs.

I also like the look of MH + t5. So if we are not worrying about cost then the only factor is aesthetics and for me I prefer the MH + t5 combo. I like the kelvin choices and i like the more natural look and shimmer. IMO led lit tanks are very contrasty with areas that are very dark due to the concerntration of the lights.

What are you going with...or have you not decided?

Thanks Loz,

Your tank is perfectly fine mate! Ush has some awesome stock and I love the way he presents it. IMO, even though I am biased, he is gaining a well deserved reputation of a quality shop.

Matt,

I love seeing that latest update! Looks like you've been busy.

It's glaringly apparent that your planning was about as extensive as your vision on this build. Great work.

It certainly serves as inspiration for mine although it's still early, early in planning.

I did buy a few books on building home addition rooms, waterproofing, and humidity control...things you're already well versed in apparently!

KEEP IT UP!

I too agree with Mr. Positive.
There can be no isolation from garage creep, even with double doors. Or is that fish room creep?

Amazing job. I bought Cheetah 3D some time ago to mess around with tank plans etc. It's been fun and surprisingly very effective at discovering issues. I am still a long way away from affording what I want to do, but this is certainly inspirational.
