Maxspect LED owners!!!

I've been a member of RC for a while, but never really surfed the site much. I started this week and am finding a lot of valuable info. for my new 280 build. I bought a Maxpect G2 110W about 6mths ago in a RC group buy...have it over a custom 30g that is not real tall...and I LOVE it. I wasn't sure if I was going to do these lights over my large tank because of the price, but once I found this thread I am more motivated to save the money for it.

BTW...I LOVE the photos of the two hermits...looks like they are going on a stroll and chit-chatting about their new lights LOL.

have fun
and don't steal!

I have my G2 230W for my 92g tank since March this year. It has been running without any problem and all my SPS are growing well with nice PE and color. I am happy with my purchase. The only thing I see negative is the clock runs a few minutes fast per month but it is quite insignificant.

I thought I would comment on this.
Both of mine run right about 13 minutes fast per month. They stay pretty much in sync though... they turn off/on inside of a minute of each other, which is within my capability to program them the same ... they must both run really close to the same speed, it's just a bit fast.

Finsreef just put up replacement leds on their site if anybody is looking to change the color of their light.

Thanks. I placed my order last week with Brian at Fins. Can't wait!

Tank is 5x7 24 inch deep I run 4x maxspect 160 without any optic but I will try optic later I also plan to add 2x g2110 watt in the front. The tank is 4 side view so all the coral are arrange in 1 island. So far most of coral are on one side of the island
tree other side have some but still not finish the tank is only 3 week old. here is a view of another side

I am going to be tweaking this now to be more like a T5 look with Fiji purple i or at least just tone down the yellow look at full power.

Put in at least 2 red and well see.

I'm excited, I've been waiting for the optics kit and new LEDs since I saw them at MACNA. Brian contacted me early yesterday to confirm both the optics and LEDs were now available. I'm updating my G2-160,

  • Replacing most of the Semi LED whites and with Cree whites
  • Replacing some of the SEMI LED Royal Blues with Cree Royal Blues and Blues
  • Adding 2X UV-A (expensive buggers)
  • Adding 2X Red
My G2 is elevated above a Frag tank, so I plan on using a combination of the 60 degree clear and blending optics. I also ordered a few Cyan, but I'm on the fence - I think I'll initially try it without.

I've also entered a Grow-out contest allowing me to directly compare (side-by-side) the growth and coloration under G2 to a set of AI's with a common water source and under equal PAR. 2 identical sets of 8 frags will be grown for a period of six months - it should be interesting and hopefully a great showcase for LED lighting. You can follow the thread (along with lots of pictures of both LED lights) here

Also, If I could ask for just a few seconds of your time...

I was honored that my thread, "AquaIllumination PAR Measurements" was one of three threads nominated by Reef Central for November's thread of the month. It showcases LED lighting and provides PAR data and recommendations for new users in the hopes of avoiding bleaching (which I managed to do twice.) If you could take a moment and cast your vote by clicking the link below, it would be greatly appreciated!

Please Vote for November's Thread of the Month

Any help in spreading the word is greatly appreciated, I still see many comments from those without exposure to LED lighting claiming they "won't grow SPS" :strange:

Thank you very much for your assistance!

That thread looks like a good read Tom so I'll have to check it out and best of luck to you in the voting!

Calm if this could help you I try some combination and found the cyan give more fluorecence in the green color I realy like it
I also like add 2x red and and add 3x more blue. so total remove 7 white semie on a 110 watt. The color so far is freaking. I have little concern about fast growing as we know fast grow and colorfull are rarely on the same boat if so we will not use 20k bulb. I also try pink to replace the red but prefer the red cause pink seem to wash out some color

Thanks Sara!

I'm thinking we need to plan a spring-time tank tour - Lets see, we'll start in Chicago (just because I love Chicago in the spring, especially all the great restaurants :)) then on to Oakville to hang with Peter for a bit. Then off to Bucharest to spend some quality time with Andy, and we'll wrap in Thailand with Ching Chai.

You in? :D

Thanks Stephane,

I thought I might start without the Cyans as the Cree Blue covers some of that spectrum. Compliments of the plug-n-play on the G2, it's easy to add them later if desired. I'm playing with some 403nm near UV on a set of AI SOL blues that looks promising.

Add to this is the impact of the optics and the real wild-card - the UV-A LEDs. It will be interesting to see the results (if any.) :)

Oh boy, that sounds tempting to say the least! :bounce3:

Guys, please let us know what the new led's do to change your colors. I have a G2 170 on the way. I plan on changing some of the led's if I think I can tweak the color but I don't want to buy the wrong ones. I have been running Reeflux 20K's over my tank since I found them to be the perfect color/par for me. I hope I can replicate their color with led's.

Greetings to everyone on here. I am a newbie when it comes to LED's. I have a G2 maxspect 110w. I was wondering how they 90 degrees optic upgrade and the 60 degrees optic upgrade would help me. Any info would help. Thank you!

Hi everyone. I was looking into changing over to LED's and am curious about the Maxspect G2 Extreme. Do these fixtures have adjustable Kelvin and intensity settings that are programmable such as with AI and Pacific Sun Led's? I was looking on purchasing 2 G2 Extreme 160's for my 120 gal with the following dimensions 60w x 18d x 26h, would this be enough for my tank? Thanks much

No, there is a built in timer that controls different banks of leds, that's all. The thing about the Maxspects is that they make them so easy to change/upgrade since the leds come on stars that screw down and plug in so changing leds is very easy.
