May 21st Local Swap

SPS = Small Poylp Stony...Put your bifocals on and you will see the little polyps moving all over the place! Of course your Whisper 6000 pump might need to be upgraded...

So that is why people with SPS have so many smudges on their tank. You have to press your face on the glass or buy a telescope to see all this microscopic movement on these sticks? That sounds fascinating. Until then, I will just have to watch all the natural movement on my softies and LPS from across the room while sitting on my couch....and all it needs is a $10 pump!
:fun2:

I know you just put two V-8 OB boat motors in your tank...can the :fish1: swim against that current or do you tie them to a stick so they don't get blown away?

Just so everyone on here is aware: There is a "Club and there are funds available" Regretfully we have not been able to get a meeting organized in the last several months" Marty aka Mako Shark (Current President of the club since he was Vice President and our newly elected president resigned) gave approval to set up a sanctioned meeting. If someone can step up and organize the meeting there are funds for refreshments.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you like Bill Hampton 901-229-7133 Sundays or very late evenings are best. The club is in desperate need of some new blood to take over the reigns here, we had several of our members moved out of the area and I personally have had some major family health issue,s and work demands that have not allowed me to stay active here on the boards or otherwise.

Maybe some day in the future I can be more envolved but at this time it is just not much of an option. As i listed my cell number the best times to reach me are on Sundays and any late evening, or leave me an e-mail at ducklabdad@yahoo.com and I will get back with you, I do not get to check my personal e-mail each day but will respond when I can.

This club has been a wonderful thing for me and my family in the friends that we have met and the help with this wonderful hobby, I hope that some new blood can take that passion that brought me into the hobby can get involved and run with it.

Bill: I think everyone understands the various challenges we all have in our lives and certainly the first things to go when meeting life's challenges are our hobbies. You can see on a regular basis that people come and go in this hobby as you see posting to "sell it all" on a regular basis. While I moved back to Memphis and switched to SW in the last couple of years, I have found that it certainly takes not only a passion to keep it going, but a large (available) time commitment.

I would suggest someone from the current leadership would be appropriate to start another thread for thoughts and suggestions of those that are active. It appears that those active on this site are few and it seems most are from outside of Memphis. You may simply have a point and time that a formal club may not have enough active participants? Anyway, if you start another thread, you might get a good feel for what this group is interested in.

I wish you the best in your recent family health issues.

Kerry

I will be there, I am still new and my tank is coming along nicely...

Just so we didn't completely confuse you or anyone else, we need to clarify. There was not enough interest expressed in having a formal meeting, and the mini-swap turned into an on-line swap with everyone conducting their own individual swaps and times to exchange. So unless something changes and others chime in, that is the way it seems to be going.

I believe the Club will be putting out a new thread as some of the Seasoned Veterians have taken temporary time-outs and the newbies will have to speak up on the interest/direction of the Club going forward....so stay tuned.

I am glad your tank is coming along well! Why don't you start up a new thread and tell us about your set-up (tank size, lighting, type of corals, fish, etc.). I am sure we would all enjoy seeing your pictures as well (unless they are SPS, in which case don't waste our time, we have seen pictures of motionless colored sticks:lolspin:..jk..we enjoy all tanks, softies, LPS, SPS, mixed...).;)

Rudolph, sounds like you would be a hoot to have around at the meetings. I hate that the club has taken such a long break from activity but I fully understand since I know the stresses the active members have gone through this last year with health issues. I was one of the active members and club secretary when I moved away a year ago . The club was the best thing that ever happened to me when I was getting started in the hobby . I met many people and formed great friendships alongt he way.
Bill it was great to see you post and I do think of you and Robin often ,,hope you both continue to improve. Steve it was great seeing that you are still out there too . You have been quiet a long long time...

Rudolph, you actually want clove polyps?? Those things spread like MAD CRAZY!! I have a pretty decent size rock in my 29 that has got them on it. I will be more than happy to see if I can break rock and we can figure something out, maybe a trade for something you have. I hate these things and want them GONE NOWWWW before they take completely over. I also have a smaller rock, maybe softball size that has cloves in a half dollar or so size starting on it, along with a Kenya tree I think it is growing in the cave of it. Could work something out with that too if you wanted. I'll try to get pics soon but it's gonna be from iPhone. I don't have a really nice camera to take good pics with. I also read that you really don't like the reefer names on here, btw mine is Tim, I'm Chris' brother.

Tim: Where would I be without all you big brothers and sisters? I really appreciate everyone watching out for me. I guess everyone on here will be my official "no guy" (the person that tells you no when you get out of line). Jabo pummels me for even talking about anything that isn't a Stagnant Pointy Stick....or a zoa that doesn't have a big name.

I guess I will pass on the dreaded cloves....anyone out there like gloves and feel differently?

Pensfan and Jabo: Unless I hear from you otherwise, I am picking up coral's for you both from Keaton's mom on May 28th (this Saturday was hectic for us both and I am going to be out of town this Sunday-Friday). If either of you are coming in town that weekend let me know.

Sklyer: Please check your email. We need to decide if we can find an agreeable meeting spot on Thursday. I am okay with 7:30AM, just cannot be west of I-40/240 exchange (can be a nightmare that time of day - an accident there and the city shuts down).

Picked up some stuff from Keaton's Mom today. Beautiful home and tank. Very nice meeting you and the frags look great in the tank.

Thanks

Chris-Ditto, I enjoyed the visit as well and thanks for the props. I realized after you left we never finished the conversation on the LEDs. That would be an awesome subject for a future meeting. "DIY LED" I could host it and maybe join the club...hahaha...finally!

BJ-I too, enjoy the personalized mugs...When my husband is out of town, I drink from his :inlove: but don't tell him that. And you should feel honored, Keaton keeps his on his bedside table.

Looking forward to meeing Kerry next Saturday, Bryan was over last Saturday...Hmmmmm....Sounds like I've hosted a mobile meeting already.

If sky can't make the trip up and he'll still be in starkvegas for a week or so, I may can arrange something...
