MB7 + BioFuel (or Vodka) - Show Thread

The biggest difference I see is it allows me to keep LOTS of fish in a relatively small amount of water and feed them like crazy. My 175 on page 1 has 30 fish (8 of which are huge tangs/rabbit) and my 90 has close to 20 fish--5 tangs.

The 175 has 170 net gal

The 90 has 60 net gal

I incorporated vinegar to see if it would make some cyano go away and it has. 8ml of vinegar equals 1 ml of vodka. I currently dose 21.5ml of vodka and 24ml of vinegar daily on my 175 along with 24 drops of MB7. The 90 gets 8ml of vodka and 16ml of vinegar with 10 gtts of MB7 daily.

biopellets in theory would work, but it's harder to start slow and work your way up in a closed reactor.

I've been dosing for 2 years. I used the dosing schedule in the Reefkeeper magazine. I'm curious about adding a little sugar to the equation for VSV at this point since the vinegar obviously allowed something to outcompete the cyano.

I was doing MB7 and vodka. The Cyano was terrible so I ended up stopping the program. When I saw this thread I thought that maybe the theory had improved since I had stopped several months ago. I'm looking to go back to ULNS but I want to make sure that I have everything else worked out first, like getting my sump system and skimmers working optimally before jumping in again. There is a lot of good info here and learning about vinegar has been one of them. Thanks to the thread starter and those posting their results.

This thread has a lot of information in it, I just started on biopellets 2 weeks ago and still need to see results. I'm really encouraged by the progress everyone has here in terms of MB7 and vodka dosing.

Yea, I was in the process of copying what your guidlines were when we found you had been booted. Be careful Sunny, they'll boot ya agin. :lol2:

I am using Warner Marine Bio Pellets and his Additives for my 180. So would MB7 be good to add to my line up of Additives?

I gave vodka a try for about 2-3 months. Dosed half the recommended dose and went slow with it. I started to get cyano that I am still seeing small patched of, stringy brown bacteria on pumps ect. The worst part of it was it paled out my sps a lot. I was feeding really heavy and increased my fish load but nothing helped. I stopped the vodka and when back to carbon and GFO and kept up the heavy feeding. I have since see a big difference in sps color and growth. I have been wanting to try MB7.

I just wanted to share my experience really quick. I am on day twelve of MB7 and I am starting to see a difference in my system already. There is not as much algae on the glass and my water seems to be much clearer. I haven't really noticed a difference in my corals yet but then again i am only on day twelve. I will start Biofuel in about 3 days so we'll see how it goes. So far its looking good.

I too can report the same findings as Gilbert with the MB-7 I am on day 8 and cyano along with alot of algae on the glass has dissappered. Going to start vodka dosing a week from today.

I have been doing the MB7 and carbon dosing for about 3-4mo now and have good results. Water appears clearer and less algae on the glass, also my skimmate is a lot darker. In the beginning I did have some cyno that appeared where I didn’t have before but that went away when I decreased the vodka a little. Also my corals appear brighter
I’ll work on some pics but I need to scarp some coral-line off the glass and do a water change.

Heck yeah! Last time I saw your tank in person, I thought it was stunning. Cant wait to see updated pics under MB7+Vodka, Mike.

Ok quick question. I'll be on the last day of the MB7 2 week dosing tomorrow and then I'll start Biofuel on Friday. Should I dose Biofuel according to the high nutrient dosage or the low nutrient dosage?

This is my MB7 + BioFuel tank. I've been dosing for a few years now.

i have been battling hair algae, red slime algae, bubble algae. I started to dose mb7. been a week now, however, it seems like my hair algae is continuously growing. I am doing 30 g water changes in my 120g tank. could it be the mb7? or could it be something else? i am also running a gfo/carbon reactor to help the nitrates and phosphates. I have never battled hair algae before so I am curious if its the mb7.

@ agsansoo

Tank looks amazing...thx for posting pics. You've got some great growth in the Tank of yours.

@ luv4

I had a small HA outbreak back in the day and I learned that boosting Mag will slowly kill it off. It actually worked very well for me. Try doing some research on HA and Mag.

Kent Tech M will usually do the trick when it comes to Magnesium and algae outbreaks. Try to get your Mg. to 1500 and Cal. around 500 to keep things stable.
