i'm looking at this microscope on eBay and i was just wondering if anyone has used one of these...

i was wondering if that LED lighting setup is bright enough for 80x or are halogen bulbs brighter...? i wished the magnification is a bit more than 80x but i know it will sacrifice resolution too much...

i've picked between compound and dissecting microscopes and determined for what i want to use it for, i need a dissecting... maybe later i would also be able to afford a compound...

i've read a lot of people say that you get what you pay for with microscopes but $200 for one is really pushing it for me... i just need to know if cheap microscopes like these are really that bad before i pull the trigger...

A good dissecting scope is essentially a stereoscopic microscope. It provides a 3D view of the item under the scope. A compound microscope only offers a 2D view. If you can find a stereoscope at a decent price then you should have what you need. Look for used where you are at local universities or tech schools.

Halogen bulbs will be brighter, but like you said, you get what you paid for. Plus a halogen on rechargeable batteries will be like a fat kid on cake, nothing left after 5 minutes.

I don't know if you're going to find a better deal unless you can find used.

What are you using it for? I use a Zeiss stemi C for my work and I love it!
