Hi, all-

Was looking at the tank after lights out, spotted a few of these snails cruising around on the glass. They are about dime sized and appeared to be feeding on algae but very difficult to tell as they were extremely shy of the light. They are very pretty I think, the ends of the shells look like they are dipped in scarlet paint and they have brown bands wrapping around the rest of the shell, the foot was a rosy colour but hard to tell in the pic. Someone suggested I post here as well as they thought it resembled a conus sp. Any ideas?

Thanks! :)

Thank you very much!

After some research I think you are correct. I will continue to observe these guys, hope that they multiply if they are indeed columbellids! On further insrection I think that the red at the point of the shells is coralline :) silly me!

Hey hey, how's that chaeto doing? I did a quick search through those links, and didn't see anything that looked like an exact match, but I think that you're pretty close. I'll be over sometime to see that new achilles, and to pick up some more of those snails. If you find out these are good, and you've got a lot of em, maybe some of those guys too! Keep us posted on what you discover!

They leave small (a few mm in diameter), round egg capsules on hard substrates - they're very noticable on walls. You can watch the little dots develop into tiny snails. Wonders of nature. :D

It's not a Strombus. The mentioned genus has a quite a pronounced eye. These do not. See the link I provided above.
