Mike's 200g

You, me and my dremmel would take care of that gigantic efflo Mike although if things started going badly i'd probably bail on you....

Every time i look at your beautiful display i have to remind myself that you do it with bloody LED's........... i have no idea how you do it but you most definitely do do it Mike :)

Thanks Andrew. It would be all you working with the dremmel while I quietly keep my fingers crossed, cussing at you under my breath, in the corner.
Leds work just fine.....but I am liking my t5 additions.

Nice maricultured piece developing some really nice yellow right on the tips

Green slimer frag I got cheap at a sale a few months ago. Just checked it in the back hoping one day it would grow out from behind the rockwork and make a beutiful stag rising all way to surface. Just noticed how well it is doing and growing the other day so took this shot.... Hours later my Neptune wav pump somehow disconnected from its mount and it landed right on top of this breaking every single one of the growing branches off! Oh well, at least it grows quick.

These pics were taken fairly late in the evening so the tank was very blue. I feel color is farly accurate though for that time of day.

Beautiful monster Efflo, I understand completely not wanting to cut it. I have one recovering from being used as a frag whore which will take some time to return to glory but worth it if I can get it to look 1/2 as good as yours :)

I'm sure you will. Mine has been suprisingly hardy, making through tank moves etc with no problem, and growing much faster than I had expected.

I could not bring myself to prune it. To me it's so perfect and any attempt at cutting it just seems like it would ruin it, and seems wrong for such a great piece of coral. I will have to find someone who I know will be able to keep it alive and has a monster tank with room for it. Will be a sad day for me, but I just couldn't cut that coral.

When I cut my soli and efflos I just cut a circle around the middle and cut the remaining pieces into funny squares to sell. The original coral will grow back just fine if it's put back in the same spot. If it is moved sometimes it won't grow out even. I remember a friend had a 500$ efflo about 18" around and gave it to a local shop and it got eaten alive by aefw. I always thought it's best to cut things down and spread the wealth, especially with nice growing corals. That way it's easier to get a piece back and more people can enjoy it. It is very hard to bring yourself to cut such a cool growth pattern for sure though! Beautiful piece!

Hey Mike,

just updating from back in July ... so sorry about the dipping incident, I hope you can easily replace and grow those out again!

Broken slimer means even more growth tips soon. :) Murphys law will always break something it seems.

That one porn pick a month back was fantastic, can we see more?

Thanks for stopping in Mark.
I have already replaced the Hawkins (just now of course I'm starting with a much smaller piece again), the red dragon I had a frag from my colony in my frag tank so it has replaced it (however for some reason it is not doing as well now even though it was fine before, I'm hoping just the change from frag tank to display bothered it but it will recover), the other dragon type acro has not been replaced yet but I think a local hobyist has a piece for me.
The carolinia (i think) had lost all color but it is coming back. A few others that got the poops are still a little poopy but seem to be getting better.
I will try and find time this weekend to get some shots, it's hard with a 6 month old and a 2 year old.

Had a chance to take a few pics yesterday and today. Quality isn't great on the shots, a couple are blurry. I think part of my lens got damaged somehow.
I don't have time right now to post them all. I'm hoping this weekend to give a larger update with all the pics.
For now just one. A current FTS

Not only is the reef awesome but the matching carpentry work is out standing. The fact that the stand matches and blends into the room makes the corals standout even more.

The corals, not the tank, have become the center focus of the room.

Agreed! Looking fantastic, Mike!

Ok, so update as promised.
Set up reactor with zeomix, carbon, phos minus. Removed AIO biopellets. Havnt seen a change in nutrients but I feel skimmate has kicked up a little.
Although my nutrients read low, I am trying to lower them. Daily glass wiping and brown sand tells me nutrients are possibly a little higher than I would like. To Do this I have cut one cube of frozen food (so now 5 per day) and feeding AF powder food just 3 times per week instead of daily. I may up 1 drop of probio s and np pro also.
T5 lighting is now up to 5 hours (6 is the target)
I have added 8ml of flatworm exit each night as a possible help against AEFW. Blasting with rodi weekly works well at knocking them off.

FTS was posted a couple posts ago and some coral shots are to follow. Like I say I think there is a little problem with my lens so some pictures are not well focused.

A few ssc's to start. I have 3 possibly 4 SSC type corals. One I'm not sure although was told it is. None of them were that colored when I got them, but are now starting to show some nice colors but still have a way to go.

Something else happened in the reef... One morning my leopard wrasse woke up and decided to be a he now ..

Unfortunately very blurry

This is kinda cool, yellow tips of these coralites getting orange highlights

Replacement for my hawkins I killed with dipping

This is similar to the northern lights granuloda.. But is just a mariculture piece... But be the same actual coral though, who knows.
