Minimalist Aquascaping

How many of you guys are running a fuge on your system to help promote the pod population with little rock in your display?

I wish I had an overflow so I can run a better skimmer, carbon, filter socks, macro/fuge and all the good stuff but rushing into getting a tank up lead to a poor build so all my filtration comes from my LR and a cheap CPR BakPak2 skimmer (heavily underrated for a tank my size).

I have the CPR as well. When I had it in my 12-gal (just a tall 10-gal) I made an overflow out of a rectangle Rubbermaid bottle. Then later made a nicer one out of acrylic using a table saw. Just make sure you have some type of auto top-off. The water level from evap is exaggerated in the overflow box. I also put two 3 in skimmer wood stones in my CPR to really crank it up. Works awesome.

For carbon I use a Two Little Fishes Phosban Reactor 150 that hangs off the back of my tank. You can put the mini jet 404 pump in the CPR backpack reservoir with the output back into the tank.

I made about half of my 20 gallon sump a fuge. Right now it has a lot of live sand and live rock, but I'm about to add some macro algae and other critters.

Heres my recently setup 100G

Going to be adding sand and lowering the lights soon.

Nice! Think twice about the sand ;)

Can we see some pics

Sure, I'll try to add some pictures tomorrow if I remember. There's no lighting down there but I'll add some fluorescent lighting soon so the macro and live rock will grow a bit better.

I'm going to be hanging my absolutely non-minimalistic light fixture on top of the tank tomorrow as well. :eek1: It's not pretty but will have to do for now.

Can't wait. I just got rid of my 7" filter sock tonight, so I pla on adding 2 4" socks to my system, and hopefully add a fuge into my system as well. Not sure if I will do it in my sump or an external one yet though. I figure with taking out all the rock, and fuge has to help out some, and will give me a place to store some soft frags

jettin, love that tank. very nice. The barebottom looks nice. what other additions are you planning?

Thanks, planning to add (apart from the sand) some schooling fish, thinking of about 8 chromis, and then just a pair of clowns.

The doors on the stand still have to go on, possibly a new skimmer + dosing controller to come.

nice tank jettin. how long have you had you emp. in there? any problems with him bothering your corals?

Have had the emperor for about 3months now, doesnt bother anything but grunts at some of fish when he gets annoyed.

Nice! Think twice about the sand ;)

Hmm you really think so? I was planning to go for a 2mm aragonite, very shallow bed, if this tank didnt have so much bracing on the bace then I wouldnt mind but its a bit ugly as it is.

Ian, that looks ballin'!! Very nice setup, is it a leemar tank? Dimensions? Looks like a 48x24x 20ish? That's going to look amazing, what are your plans for the tank?

Here is my start. Tank upgrade should kick off here full swing next month or so. Already ordered my light and puttied this together so it's official.

Hopefully going with a 36"x 24"x 18-20" tall rimless leemar, still not decided how tall I want.
