I overshot my goal when picking out liverock. Without a sump to dump leftover LR as cryptic rock, I ended up with a less minimalistic build than I would've liked... the (50 gal) tank would need another foot of length to make the rockscape truly minimalistic. Oh well, it's no "breakwater wall" design, either...

Glad you like it.Wow nice!
Cubes are great - the one thing in aquascaping you can't replace is true depth, and they come with plenty of it by default. Although this tank is sort of a skewed cube (65 x 60 x 50 cm or roughly about 25.5" x 23.5" x 19.5")I love the cube shape and bonsai formation!
No - the tank is decidedly low-tech, and I have nowhere to put a sump. I'm not even sure if I'm ever going to use a skimmer. Are you planning a sump?
I'm German - I just happen to like keeping an eye out for the international side of the hobby.Sind Sie Deutsch oder nur stationiert?
Thank you.Your tank is gorgeous!
It's live rock, and according to the shop it's from Bali and collected at deeper places in the reef. Unfortunately, it had already been in the shop holding system for some time - the photosynthetic life had suffered quite a bit when I bought it. On the plus side, it seems that most larger "nuisances" like crabs had moved out of it by that time, too. The coralline algae recovered just fine, though. What kind of rock is that, and how much did you put in there?
No, the mobile lifestock is limited to 5 Peppermint shrimp, 25 Blue Leg Hermits, 3 Rock Shrimp (Palaemon elegans) and about 20 assorted snails. Are there any fish in there?
Is this minimalist? I can't decide. Not counting the tonga branch, there's only about 13 lbs of rock in a 30 gallon tank. It's definitely not a rock pile or rock wall.
