Minimalist Aquascaping

^I like that floating rock look.

Well I made some additions and I think I probably just dropped out of the minimalist school :(

Here is mine. Scaping is totally done now. I have some cool ideas with the coral, but I think it got a bit filled in. Still not as bad as some of the other tanks though.

Im cooking em in a tub right now, Heres the dry run. I realized the neat looking towers are useless in terms of corals. So i went with Flat high surface type scape this time.

Heres number two,, But im going with the first because its going to look better when sticks are on it. Thats the point aint it?

Very nice and clean look - I think it might be lacking some tension with that very parallel setup, though. I'd try setting the "pizza slice" on top of the left island at an angle, so it points toward the right island... or flipping the entire right island... breaking up the slope of the left island into individual pieces might also help...

Switched some things around. Made the sandbed deeper on the right to prep for tube anemones when everything is running right. I think it looks better than it did previously.

So a quick question re minimalist designs: do you risk lack of biofiltration and harm to the reef/fish? I thought you should have 1 pound of LR for each gallon?

Thanks.

Even though you may not see the "recommended" amount of rock in the display tank, there is a lot going on below with mechanical filtration, protein skimming, and extra live rock--all kept out of sight. Idea being a thoughtful minimal reefscape with well placed corals and fish.

Agreed, but I have a 24gallon tank with no sump as it is an all in one. Has small chambers behind the display, 1 with a PS, 2 which I modded to have chemi pure and Chaeto, and 3 with the return filter. I suppose I could put some LR back there, but it would be minimal. I like the minimalistic look much better, but I just dont want to sacrifice biological filtration.

What do you think?
