mnml's rimless

Tran,

I meant the stand pipe inside the overflow. It looks very professionally made.

sEan

oops. :fun4: A fellow reefer built it for me.

Way to go!!! Love the tank... really love the aquascaping!!!

How many pounds of marco rock is that?

Thanks Jennifer. I ended up only using about 50 lbs of rock. How's the new tank coming along? I still have another 50lbs if you need any for your new tank. I also have 60lbs of Tropic Eden substrate left over as well.

Tran... not to hijack the thread, but I've got my final design and may order it on Monday. I may take you up on the rock and sand. Which MarcoRock did you get?

Can't wait to see your new tank. I've got the Key Largo kind. You're welcome to stop by to check 'em out. I'm still in Irvine (Oak Creek).

That's a sweet looking tank!

Thank you :)

Friday update:

I got my skimmer hooked up and the Apex controller programmed. Still waiting for my BRS dosers to arrive next week. I also started dosing MB7 to help seed the Marco rocks.

Thanks Frank!

MB7 is bacteria that helps promote biological filtration. I've been using it in my 25g in conjunction with vodka dosing but read that it can also help during cycling. I'm going to try it for a week or two and see if anything happens.

Tran, how do you like the angle overflow like that? does it take up more space than the square one? I want to do the same for my new tank but I don't know if it possible to drill 2x1.5" and 3/4" return for the triangle overflow like that....

I don't mind it really. I'm not sure if it takes up more space than the square one but I don't think it will be able to accommodate 2x1.5" + 3/4". Maybe if you go bigger on the overflow but you'll start to loose real estate in the tank because of the angle.

do you happen to know how much flow you getting from 1.5" I might just go a single 2" and a 3/4" return. My near future tank will be 60x36x24 so I want to have as large as possible of a drain pipe but really hate the big bulky black box in the corner

Great setup. I am looking to go with a 120 tech, but I am going to build my stand. Great start, I am planning on going with the PM as well.

I'm not sure the exact rate but I would guess it's around 550gph (about 4x turnover). I was getting a lot of water splashing in my sump so I reduce the flow of my return pump. That's the one nice thing I like about the Tunze Silence pumps, you can adjust the flow rate.

Tran, look good man. I love your clean set up.

Thanks John. I'm going to have to stop by some time to check out your new set up.

Thanks Reefobsession. What dimensions are you going to get?

I thought you bought the eheim? where you get the tunze pump from? what's the gph of that pump and the wattage it's output at?

48"X24"X24" Really like the stand that d2mini and you built. I was looking in going your style stand or his style stand. Tough choice.

Well, I actually bought an Eheim 1260 (635gph at 65w) and a Tunze Silence 1073.040 (792gph at 42w). I tried the Tunze first since it consumes less power but found I had to throttle the flow with a valve. I was going to try the Eheim but found that Tunze had a lower flow pump then the 1073.040 so I decided to try it. Purchased the Tunze Silence 1073.020 (634gph at 30w) and it's perfect. So now I have two extra return pumps. :p Probably will sell the Tunze 1073.040 and keep the Eheim 1260 as a backup. One of my main goals with this tank was to save on power consumption where ever I can. So far the Tunze 634gph is working well for me.

Those are nice dimensions. D2mini's stand is super nice. I would of liked something similar to his but I wasn't able to find anyone that can build it for me. Good luck on your tank build and please post some pics when you can.
