mnml's rimless

Nice Job!~

Nice Job!~

Hey Tran,

just found your thread and WOW... really coming along nice!

You've done some creative things there with the wicker basket to cover the top off water, my wife would love that! I need to figure something out like that for my chiller. Haven't had to use it yet but now that I'm running 400w Radiums vs the 250's I'm pretty sure I'll have to hook it back up now.

Anyhow, I'll be taggin along to see how thing progress!

great looking tank

Thanks a bunch.
How are you feeling about your current bulb combination? Still likin' it?

I think it's a keeper! :) Corals are starting to color up that's for sure. Also, I don't go blind staring at the tank! :crazy1:

Hi Dave, thanks for the kind word. I've been following your thread and it's been very inspirational.

No problem Tran,

It's an honor to be an inspiration to you or anyone else for that matter. I was so inspired by so many here and wanted to catalog my own build thread after getting so much helpful information and ideas from everyone else that I thought it fitting to attempt to give back to others here on the forum.

I think there's so much to be learned from one another and that RC and other forums like them are such a powerful learning tool for all reefers of any level of experience!~

Dave

Hey mnm great tank. I was looking through your thread and was trying to find what rock and salt you are using because everything looks great.

MNML,

Really like the way the tank has progressed. What ATO system are you using? I might be needing one very soon. Thanks.

I couldn't agree more, well said.

Hi Evan - thanks for the compliment.

The rocks are called Key Largo from MarcoRock.com and I'm currently using Tropic Marin salt.

Cheers butchik - I'm currently using the Tunze osmolator for ATO and am very happy with it. It quite accurate and seem to work well.

Got some goodies from my wife for V-day :)

Pretty cool blue color SPS

Hopefully my clowns will host this Frogspawn :o

How did she know exactly what you wanted :love2:

It's beautiful... I'll be waiting for that to grow out for a frag!

Glad you settled on your lighting and it's doing well... I'll have to copy you of course ;)

I have been silently following along... you're tank looks great and well thought out.

Hopefully my clowns will host this Frogspawn :o

It will be great to see them settle in the frogspawn. Up until recently I kept going back and forth between planning for a gigantea anemone or frogspawn for my clowns in a 75G. I recently came to my senses and realized the gigantea will be too big.. hopefully they will accept frogspawn or a nice frilly mushroom.

Hi MNML. Gorgeous tank !! I noticed you were considering adding a screen. I can't bring myself to add one on my Rimless Elos tank, but there are fish I'd love to get but can't consider because it's open, like the majority of Wrasses...so that's a bit of a bummer. I was surprised to see the McKoskers wrasse in your tank. Beautiful fish but I'd be afraid he'd jump. I'd be interested to see if you or someone else comes up with a design for a screen that doesn't take away from the beauty of a Rimless tank. Pam

It's great having a reef friendly spouse. :) I should have a few frags ready for you once your tank is ready.

Thanks gonzalezcp. I was debating whether or not to get a RBTA for the clown but I was afraid it would wonder around the tank. So far the clowns are oblivious to the Frogspwan but they've found quite a liking to the sand. :hmm6:

Looks like a blue voodoo staghorn. Very nice looking coral. I'd love a frag myself. They sell online for about 50 bucks!

Thanks for the ID, I don't exactly know what it's called but I really like the color and thickness of the branch. Hopefully it'll be a fast grower. :rolleye1:

Sweet presents Tran! :)

Thanks adddo, appreciate the feedback.

Hi Pam, thanks for the compliment. I'm in the same boat as you, I hesitate to put a screen on due to taking away from the aesthetic. So far all my fish have been on good behavior so I'm lucky. Robojet has made one for her rimless and it looks great. I may end up getting one made if I get too many carpet surfers.

You guys are crackin' me up! :twitch: Now, our schedules may be a little different... but there is nothing to admire about my tank (weekdays) between 9pm (tank lights out) and 5pm (slept at night and just getting home from work)... That's 20 hours of no tank viewing and prime jumping time with no help in sight! I know it's agonizingly difficult... :rolleye1: but you can remove the screen and put it back on for those glorious few hours you actually get to see your tank.

I would rather not come home to a dried out fish on the floor...

I'm done.

The tank is looking great Tran! I had a pair of Black Onyx Clowns that did host a Frogspawn, and both did quite well...its a great alternative...hopefully they will agree!

LOL...hmmmm...never looked at it that way Robojet. But if I walk in the door with company, it's nice to have the tank looking beautiful, without saying..."hang on...it's much prettier when I remove this screen". ;) But if I could find a way to make a screen that really looks nice and looks like it belongs, that would be an option, and then like you said...remove it when you're home. Do you have any pictures of the screen you made (or had made) Robojet? I have lost several fish due to jumping. I try to stick to all peaceful fish in hopes to keep the jumping due to agression to a minimum. Had a purple and then a red Firefish at two different times, for about 6 months each, and one day they jumped. Firefish are known jumpers, but a guy at the LFS said he had his for a couple years in his open tank and they never jumped, so I took a chance. I wouldn't chance it again. I had a Six Line wrasse just recently jump, after I had him for a good 8 months or so. I was a little more surprised at his jumping. I hadn't heard of Six Lines being jumpers. I had a Longnose Hawkfish jump after a good 6-9 months in my tank. That was another one I didn't expect to jump. Also lost a Orchid Dottyback to jumping. Had a Bartletts Anthias get so excited to eat when I went to feed the tank about 6 months ago, that he jumped out about 5 feet away from the tank. Luckily I was there and threw him back in the display and he was fine. Still have him today. I know I have another fish or two that jumped that I'm forgetting about. So, as they say, any fish can be a jumper. It does amaze me when I see a gorgeous wrasse in a totally open tank at a LFS, and wonder, if they can have one in an open tank, why can't I ?? Pam

Tran, those are nice new additions!

As far as the screen goes, I'm with Pammy. I can't do it.
I'd rather limit my fish choices than put a screen on my tank.
It may work for some, and that's fine, but it's not for me. :)

Maybe someone can invent some sort of "electric fence" for fish. :D
