mnml's rimless

Tran, those are nice new additions!

As far as the screen goes, I'm with Pammy. I can't do it.
I'd rather limit my fish choices than put a screen on my tank.
It may work for some, and that's fine, but it's not for me. :)

Maybe someone can invent some sort of "electric fence" for fish. :D

I wouldn't put it past anyone to attach an electric collar on a fish. :spin1::spin1::spin1:

OK! I give up  I'm clearly not in the mainstream...

Pammy, I just seen your post... I'll try to get a photo up tonight.

How are the wrasses doing?-I would love one for my topless tank-but have always been told they are jumpers!

So far so good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Nice!!! My fiance got me 3 bangaies for v day.

That's awesome. Gotta love the reef friendly spouse. :fun2:

You guys are crackin' me up! :twitch: Now, our schedules may be a little different... but there is nothing to admire about my tank (weekdays) between 9pm (tank lights out) and 5pm (slept at night and just getting home from work)... That's 20 hours of no tank viewing and prime jumping time with no help in sight! I know it's agonizingly difficult... :rolleye1: but you can remove the screen and put it back on for those glorious few hours you actually get to see your tank.

I would rather not come home to a dried out fish on the floor...

I'm done.

But Jennifer, what happens when I hook up a webcam for my tank? ;)
All kidding aside, I really should be a screen on but I'm too lazy to have to take the cover off when I'm at home. Plus, I'd have to find a spot to stash the screen so it doesn't clutter up the house, per the wife.

The tank is looking great Tran! I had a pair of Black Onyx Clowns that did host a Frogspawn, and both did quite well...its a great alternative...hopefully they will agree!

Thanks Chris. I'm staying hopeful.

LOL that would be funny. The folks over at PETA would have a field day with the idea if it came true.

Don't give Jennifer (Robojet) any ideas, if anyone can fabricate such a device, she'd be the one to do it. LOL

I'm still going to take you up on your offer as soon as I can find the netting. I *may* consider putting a net on when I'm away on my business trip (unless I hook up a webcam). :lolspin:

I was fond of that idea

We'll need to talk about the webcam... it's on my list of things to do! But I was planning on mounting mine somewhere to get a front view of the tank, not through the top... so the screen shouldn't matter :p

Pammy et al. (Regarding the screen)

Here's a couple of photos. The top of my tank sits at eye level (for me anyways - it's actually pretty high). I can't say I really notice the screen. I used a bronze aluminum frame (would prefer black, but it's dark enough that I can't really tell), and the screen I got was part of a group buy, and it is black (would prefer clear). I will probably make another when I have time, opting for clear screen and getting the unpainted aluminum frame, and paint it black.

I know folks are very concerned about how it looks... I'm more interested in preserving my fish. I've had a clownfish jump, and I was lucky, as it was an all-in-one tank, and she jumped over the back and landed in one of the chambers. I think all fish are potential jumpers.

great looking tank. are you still using the tunze return pump? im considering that for my new 75g. you're using the lowe gph model correct? thanks

Rich

Thanks Rich. I'm still running the Tunze for the return but am running the higher gph model.

Thanks. I'm torn between the Eheim 1260 and the Tunze. Might give the Tunze a try since its working well for you and ive had good luck with their other products in the past. Looking forward to seeing your reef mature!

Rich

I bought both the Tunze and the Eheim 1260 to try at first. I ended up using the Tunze since it was lower in power consumption. I have the 1260 as a backup in case the Tunze fails.

How many gph on the new tunze you are using?
I'm running the eheim 1260 wide open but have thought about upgrading to the 1262 and backing off a little on it if I have to, but still get a little more flow than the 1260.

It's operating at a 100% at the moment but I'm not exactly sure how many gph with the head loss factored in. Let me know if you decide to go with the 1262. I was thinking of trying it myself ever since I redid my plumbing. Maybe I'll get some time to do this once I'm back from the UK.

guys.. I'll be upgrading my return from a 1260 to a 1262 shortly so I can split of a line to run a reactor. Means one less pump/powerhead in the sump especially if you don't need the full flow on the main return.

mnml.. tank looks great as always. Love the little blue goby and tang. Is he he actually cleaning the tang?

oh hey.. thx too for posting all the pix of your bulb combos. They came in real handy helping me to choose bulbs. I know they probably look different in person but at least looking side by side you can get an idea..

So this weekend I broke the mag 3 I was going to use on my auto water change system so i figured i'd get the 1262 and use the 1260 on the water change thing instead.

So it was a 5 minute swap. Running well but it didn't seem to make that much of a difference over the 1260. I expected to see a big diff in the water exiting the return lines, but not really. So it's currently running wide open, just like my 1260 was.

Glad I can help :)

Thanks for the update Dennis. I would of thought you would of noticed a difference. Are you thinking of upgrading to a stronger pump than the 1260?

How about some updates pics since we all love your setup

Sorry the lag on the updates, I've been in the UK and Ireland for the past 2 weeks so there's not much progress on the tank. Although I did return to a tank full of algae on the glass and sand. :fun5:
