Mojano killing laser!

So i have had a mojano pest issue for a while now, i have been using kalk slurry and its been working fairly well. I have seen people talking about using a stronger laser pointer to kill them, and that just sounds fun! haha! Maybe i have more money set aside for my tank then i should..... Anyway onto the real question, Does anyone with any knowledge of laser pointers or used them for this purpose know of any good ones to get, I am looking at this one currently http://www.laserpointerpro.com/1000mw-highpower-kaleidoscopic-blueviolet-laser-pointer-p-349.html

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated!

Back in the day someone tried this and the laser pointer just didn't have the cohones to get the job done.

The actual functional aptasia laser was a lab grade, burn-your-retinas-out-and-sterilize-your-manhood type laser that the OP had to buy and modify for use in a way it was most definitely not intended.

I'll try to dig up the thread, but do a search for "aptasia laser" and it's the big long one.

I've had 2, I still have one I play with. It's 1.4mw and it does kill stuff... IF YOU CAN GET A GOOD STRAIGHT ON SHOT... and kill the entire anemone. If ANY of the foot is left in the hole (which happens more than 50% of the time, it grows back in 2 to 5 days just as strong as ever.

Don't be fooled. These are only marginally effective and for the money, not all that useful. I'll sell you mine if you want it! Oh, and look at who started the laser craze... it was me!

They are only marginally useful at best! If you don't get a good clean shot where you can get 100% of the anemone, because it's foot is in a hole you can't aim the laser into... it grows back in 2 to 5 days as strong as ever.

I have 2 lasers and I'd sell you either one because I never use it any more. It works on maybe 30% of the anemones I tried to kill. Power isn't the issue. It's left over live tissue. I've killed aiptasia that look like a tiny pile of ash and a few days later it's back!

And who is giving you this advise? Look at the linked thread and see who started it all and what date it started.

Yea, doing more research into it has proven it may not be as effective as one would hope, but still way more convenient imo then mixing up kalk and killing them that way, I'd be interested to give it a try non the less, Could I get some more info on this laser that you'd be willing to sell ;)

I used one also.. And Ron is correct.. They are good, as long as you have 1 way units, however, as he said, killing everything is key, and it is difficult. Then, when you add in the fish that seem to be attracted to the spot, and the cost, it really, in my experience isn't worth it. I had more success, cheaper with a file fish and some berghia nudibranchs. File Fish are new to me, but simply awesome at irradiation. The berghia, I had in my display tank previously, but this time, I'm only going to order a few for in my sump..

I would find something better than the laser honestly..

I used a Majano wand in conjunction with a Matted File Fish and haven't had any in over a year and the Filefish is a perfect gentleman and leaves things alone. So ugly he is cute and entertaining. Possibly the least aggressive and laziest fish.

If you are interested in my wand, let me know.

I have a 2 watt laser I've been using for a couple of years now. I don't use it for aptasia but for other pests. If I had to do it over I would have gotten a more powerful laser, maybe a 5 watt.

I'm glad you guys brought this up.. Lol, can you all that are interested in possibly selling a laser shoot me a pm? I could use one for other things..

Thanks..

I have not looked into Filefish before, would they eat at mojano or just aiptasia? And i do have a coral banded shrimp and quite a few smaller snails, i see they aren't invert safe have you had any issues with a matted file fish going after any?
