Wow -- some DSB folks in the club!
It took me a moment, earlier in this thread, to figure out what DSB was. Sounded scary. You read so much about gangs these days that I was a little concerned. Might I come home one day to find my tank had been "tagged" with spray-paint, "DSB!"?

If I remember correctly, I remember something about gflat having a DSB and pulling out big black chunks of sand when he moved... Explain to me how big black chunks of sand is beneficial?

So glad you took the time to read the posted article:rolleyes:

here are some highlights
From Ron's article
"Lump formation is a disaster for the biological filter"

"Fortunately, prevention of sediment clumping and the simultaneous maintenance of optimal biological filter operation is easily done by the establishment of a healthy and diverse sediment dwelling fauna"

"The answer simply is that sediment particle sizes determine the acceptability of the sediment to the organisms"

I think it's cool you guys are really getting into this and trying this stuff out. Better for the club to have folks in the know on these topics.

To all you DSB detractors, those black lumps in gflat's tank were baby creatures from the black lagoon. They're all grown up now and they don't take kindly to folks like you. [evil laugh]Whhooooooaaaaaaaaa HA HA HA HA[/evil laugh]

:D

Howard... you never cease to amuse me... At least make me laugh on a weekly basis. :)

Now we need to find some clear vinyl DSB stickers and sneak into Howard's house one day while he's gone...

Better yet... maybe if I paint DSB on my door those creatures from the black lagoon will leave me alone. :D :D
