Mo's 1000G SPS Tank

The black patches come and go.
I have had the Tang for five years now- since the start of the tank.

It was kept at SouthWest Marines in UK for almost a year before that whilst I was building the system.

There is a video of it on Reefbuilters with my Gem.

Really, what triggers the black? Is it cyclical on any given time period? Seasonal? Fascinating! So it's safe to say the Tang is around 7, look forward to seeing it in the coming years :)

No idea- they all change colour, some for the good and some for the worse!

Mine is at least 7- not sure how old before I got him...

Amazing tank... The size, coral, fish, aquascape, growth....
Can you tell us where you hide your wavemaker? Since I don't see anything not exist in a real reef there which another reason make your tank excellent....

I have 7 and 1 big one.

1 is hidden back centre- you can see it behind the stag at the back, but all of them, you have to know where they are to look for them. When you have grown in corals, they all get hidden.

The big pump is visible behind the big stag at the front, you have to look around it to see it.

In photos, most are hidden!

Hey Mo,

Question for you...I suppose. Not sure exactly how to phrase it, but I am curious about your thoughts on flow. What you look for, what you take into consideration, etc.

I am not crazy about the flow in my tank right now, and I think it may be contributing to some of the issues I am seeing...other than my tank just being young. I am not opposed to wholesale changes, and have been considering a pair of MP40QD's...but since we just put in a pool/ landscaped the backyard this summer, I am not sure my wife would be crazy about the idea of spending $750-$800 on aquarium pumps...

Lots of flow, but all indirect.
For SPS, as they grow, flow will drop, so I would recommend multiple smaller flow sources, either powerheads, or closed loop outlets, whatever takes your fancy.

I use powerheads. I have heard good things about the QD's.

Is there a chance to see your corals under day light tubes?

I have been following your threads both on RC and UR for many years, but cannot remember looking at a single photo under daylights? I know you mentioned in the past that this was not possible due to reflection of outside lights on the glass during the day time, but is it not possible to turn your lights on during night on one occasion?

Thanks in anticipation.
