Mo's 6ftx8ftx3ft SPS Reef Tank

incredible build. I can't believe they came to your house and built your tank. That's crazy. Your tank is very inspiring. One of the most beautiful I've ever seen.

This is an amazing reef aquarium that I have ever seen.

What type of silicon did you use for the aquarium glass?

What is the thick of the aquarium glass?

OMG love your tank. Great job

Mo, do you get your corals local, or order them in? (just curious as to the selection)
also, do you QT your new corals, or do you just dip them and throw them where you want.
just curious as to your processes?

thanks!!!

Hi

I get the corals from 2 shops in the UK.
Southwest Marines and Jason's Aquatics. Between them, they get everything you need.

I have a QT tank, but unfortunately still let some AEFW through. The corals seem to be living with them. I dip and baste the corals weekly at the mo'.

Mo

are you using certain fish to help with the AEFW? i know there are some out there to help maintain a low population.
and i have heard of cases where basting and letting anthias or other fish consume them while in the water column.

(did you ever post a picture of your QT? ill have to go searching now...) haha
thanks for that info.

I have cosmetus and banana wrasses that eat aefw.
My clowns, damsels and anthias all fight for aefw once in the water column.

I haven't added pics yet of the back room.... I will do.
The qt is nothing special. 3ft tank inline with the sump. It has it's own pump, but drains through an over sized Deltec UV.

Hi Mo,

I'll be interested to see that too.

What type of QT did you do with acropora?

Tony

Hi Tony,

I dipped corals twice a week for two weeks. If I observed eggs at onset, I tossed the colony.

There were two large colonies that I was unable to dip and broke the rules!.

I guess my AEFW are either from that or I missed a couple of eggs somewhere....

Of course, being inline with my main sump means my qt isn't foolproof, by any means. I think the uv on exit helps as it is a 39W Deltec on a 3 ft tank with a relatively slow feed.
I have another small tank I can set up for medicating, but I haven't used it for that purpose yet.

I didn't rip off bases etc. I did try burning the bases, but the few I did it too, took so long to recover that I don't do it now...

Hi Mo,
are you planning to try the flatworm stop form KZ ?

it would cost alot for your huge systems, but wondering if you have heard anything good about it yet ? or bad :)

thanks for sharing your beautiful tank with us again.

Yes, I've been using it for a couple of months!.
I did notice increased coloration of some corals, so I think it does something to them.

I have still noticed some aefw when I dip, but much less now. Some corals still have a few eggs, that I am trying to eradicate by brushing.

I'm still using the flatworm stop for now..
