Hello everyone,
I'll be moving to Memphis in August to start school in the fall, and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Dave (it seems like you have enough of those already, ha). I've got a 55 reef, mostly SPS, but I'm planning on upgrading during the move.

It seems like you guys have a really active club, I'm looking forward to joining.

Hey Dave#3...or 4....sheesh. Nice to know we'll be having a new guy to steal some corals from. You'll probably be coming after our frag swap but if you can make it down for that let us know!
Keep in touch and keep checking our forum for stuff you might want to get your hands into. And before the other Dave (Evil Dave i'll call him) I mean get into any of the events we might be having in the future. Its a shame that I can nolonger post honest responses without seeing all the ways my words can get twisted. Hope you have a good sense of humor Dave#4.

yeah, I've been lurking on this forum for a while now. You guys seem like my kind of people....er, I meant....never mind.

I don't think I'll make it down in time for the frag swap, but it sounds like a blast.

YOU think YOUR words get twisted?? LOL

If you need any help with the move once you get here, let us know...there are several that would most likely help.

thanks for the offer, Richard. I still haven't worked out all the details, but I'm thinking the move from SW VA will take at least a couple of days.

I'll probably be living in or around Midtown; are there a lot of people that live near the city? It seems like a lot of members live in Jackson.

Welcome, Dave!

Plenty of us in Memphis and the meetings tend to switch back and forth. That is the meetings ... .. not us. See? ... I'm so used to .. a'hem .... "Evil Dave" that I'm thinking of pre-empts before he hits. :p

Where are you starting school? Is Bio-mechanics related to biomedical?

Not trying to pry. I have a son sorting out where he's going to school here and we've really been looking at them all around here. Also, I'm involved with a program that sends biomedical engineering students to summer work programs in hospitals in Central America and this year Tanzania.

Welcome to Memphis and welcome to WTMRAC!

Cathy

Thanks for the welcome, Cathy. I will be starting medical school in the fall.

My bachelor's is in biomedical engineering from UT, and I'm finishing up a Master's in the same right now at Virginia Tech - I do impact biomechanics work - basically I break things, it's a whole lot of fun.

If your son has any questions about school that I could answer, let me know! I looked at UT-Memphis' biomed program too. That sounds really awesome about the summer work programs, I wish I had found out about something like that while I was in school.

It seems like there are a whole lot of medical or biomedical people in the club, judging from the signatures.

Thanks, Dave.

Congrats on starting medical school here!

My son is only a freshman and is a language guy more than a science guy. He's got a knack for oriental languages ... is taking his 3rd year of Japanese and 1st year of Chinese simultaneously and loves them both. We've about got it settled that he will be studying Chinese at Rhodes College next year, but will enroll and do his mainstream coursework at Christian Brothers where they have been very warm, welcoming and have offered him significant help.

The biomedical engineering program I mentioned is called Engineering World Health. We used to be affiliated with U of Memphis, but are now affiliated with Duke. We have a medical school student from U of Chicago joining us this summer, so it's never too late. ;) You can check it out at http://www.ewh.org .

There is a design/business plan competition that used to be open to people all over the country (when it was just a design competition with no money) and now is only open to Duke students (now that Duke is putting up money) and will eventually again be open to everyone. On the website, that is the CUREs program.

Best wishes for your new start in Memphis!

Cathy

wow Cathy, your son sounds like he's got it figured out, good for him.

So guys, am I going to have heat issues running T5s on a 90 down there without a chiller? I'm planning on putting fans in the canopy, and hoping I won't have a problem.

Welcome Dave#4!! We will come up with a better nickname once you actually get moved here.

Evil Dave probably already has one picked out.

I resent the "evil" moniker.
No one can prove that any of my actions were done with maliciousness in mind..

But if you must choose a label for me, Mahatma will do.

No one said you were evil dave.
Do you think your evil??

Maybe you should be called paranoid dave.

I think we're going to scare CaptainDave off before he gets to Memphis!

sounds good acro.

guys, any ideas on how to move all my corals down there? the move will take at least a couple of days because i will probably have to stop and pick my brother and his stuff up in Knoxville.

my original plan was to leave most of my stuff with a friend up here, then come get it later, but it's roughly 11 hours down there, so that's not seeming like too much of a possibility. i thought about trying to ship them down once my tank gets setup and stable, but I'm thinking that might be pretty expensive? my other option might be to move my tank to my parents house for a couple of weeks (East TN), then i could move all the stuff in one day, but that still leaves the problem of having to set up when i get there....
