I don't think its fair to call Tunze and Ecotech overpriced. Everyone assess value differently.

That sort of talk reminds of some of the worst stuff I've seen on car forums I frequent. Guys with expensive European sports cars calling American stuff cheap junk, and guys with Mustangs and Vettes calling European cars overpriced and underperforming.

MP-40 after only 2 months ...very nice quality for 500$ :headwalls:

That's what i call cheap so your quality argument doesn't make sense to me. All Ecotech parts are made in china .

That's a contradicting statement. It is fair to call them overpriced if you feel that way. Agree to disagree as you please. What's not fair is bad mouthing others who don't feel the same way as you do.

Ok, I'll revise my statement. I don't think one can call Tunze or Ecotech OBJECTIVELY overpriced.

I certainly agree with the last part of your post wholeheartedly.

Tunze is not overpiced?
Here is the tunze fan, aprox 80-90 $ from tunze shop

Here is spire pacific breeze fan for pc, aprox 14$ in standard shop

What made so big diference in price for obviously same product?

Let the poll settles our argument. Clearly there is no right or wrong decisions. We all have a price point at which we think a product is justified based on our own circumstances. It is good to know we have choices.

Tunze buys the fan from Spire, adds the A/C to USB adapter and a mount for the tank. Then they do the unheard of, they give it a warranty. Tunze acknowledges the fan is made by Spire, they did not dupe it, they bought it and adapted it. Spire gets the sale and Tunze gets the sale. I hope people see how that is different than copying the design. Would it be cheaper if you bought the fan, bought the adapter and made a mount for it, sure it would, but Spire would probably not warranty it for use over a saltwater aquarium.

Wouldn't they at least coat it with something in order to rust proof it? Saltwater eats through components that aren't made for saltwater like candy.

Im an MP40 owner, but I dont have problem with the cheaper chinese pump or Ron promoting them. Most of us promote the products we own and like in threads where someone is asking for equipment advise and we dont hesitate to tell our dislike for a product we owned and hated.........insert (Aqua C Remora Pro)!!!!!!! :-[ lol Ron is no different. He promotes what he owns or has owned and likes. He has told his dislike for products he didnt like. Are Tunze and Ecotech products overpriced? Thats a matter of opinion. My opinion is that they are. Did it stop me from buying them? No, it just means I had to save a little longer, get creative with convincing my wife, and buy my MP40s one at time!!! lol

A market is not based off opinions.. When saying something is overpriced you can easily discern if that statement is true or false off statistics.

Not to bore you with economics, but each companies regardless if they know or not (hopefully the company does) targets a specific demographic. Obviously the people that thinks it is outrageous to spend $400+ on a water pump, is not the demographic Ecotech is trying to sell/appeal towards.

Has anybody ripped open one of these Jebao pumps down to the bone to check them out? Are they UL listed? The Chinese have been wizards at fooling American consumers for years by making products look like quality products we already know. That's what scares me. I remember a Chinese extension cord that was being sold ( and probably still is) in Queens, NY. Looked just like a top of the line cord until you cut it in half to find out its almost all insulation on the inside and the wire they used was scary-thin. I'm not trying to add to an argument, I just only hear people say it's cheap and "we'll see if it lasts" kind of stuff.

My comment wasnt concerning a market. I was simply referring to advice and opinions expressed by users (including myself) within the forums here at Reef Central. Regarding marketing and marketing strategies however, you are spot on, and yes, most companies knowingly target a specific demography.

The vortech is a totally different pump than tunze or the Wp. It's a variable pump while the other 2 are high and low.

I've got a set of MP10s that are 6 years old. Still quiet and still doing great.

I would like to see how long the WP pumps last and if they put electricity in the tank. Cheap pumps tend to shock the **** out of customers every now and then.

Yes, but when people such as yourself quote that the product is overpriced, what are your basis? Is it based on your personal income?

The current market for Ecotech products says otherwise, that it is not overpriced.
