Fire off an e-mail to Andy... He checks them pretty regularly. You can go without a skimmer for a few days... If it were me I would give it a quick fix with weld on if it's where I think you are talking about and let Andy know what happened.

I want my MR-2 to run silent, how about a Posideon PS-4, to run it it has dual becketts and a 6" riser? andy thoughts on it. I heard these pumps are dead quiet?

It is not a pressure rated pump and with only 17' feet of head would not get even close to driving dual becketts. He commented on the T4 a few pages back. Its the same pump as the ps-4.

Im running the GenX 55 on single now after switch from dual. I have to say that the skimmer do a better job with one beckett.

So what is the best pump for MR3 with follow requirement:

Quiet and Energy?

I finally got my MR-2 up and running last night for several hours, but had to turn it off to fix a leak. I fixed the problem and didn't turn the skimmer back on until around noon today, and it started producing foam right away for about an hour or so.

A few minutes ago, I looked over and now the water is level is stagnant and there's no foam at all rising up above the water level.

This is how the water level was all last night. Is there something I need to adjust to fix this or do I need to just let it sit there for a while and it will fix itself?

It might be breaking in, mine was crazy for a couple of days. How long has it been running?

Pvc, and acrilic both have plastisers that help it releace from the mold, and until those are off (couple of days to a week) you can expect the skimmer to be a little unpredictable.

The water level when the becket is closed is about 2" into the first riser (above the black box). The water level I'm draining to is about a foot below the gate valve.

I've had it set up for a couple days, but it has only been running for maybe 12 hours or so total. I'll see what happens in the next few days.

This is a picture of my plumbing, just in case I have something really off. The drain for the sump has been moved over to the left, and the skimmer pump intake has been moved to the right, as well. The first picture is from before I changed up the plumbing a bit. It really helped, because with the first design, the pump was pulling in a lot of air due to water turbulance.

You should have a syphon break off the gate valve. I have a picture of my syphon break.

That T is my syphon break, the top of the pipe on it is open. This will help your skimmer be more constant.

But after you add it you will have to wait again for the plastisizers to be out of that PVC peice.

What is the vacum breaker. I do not have one and was not told i needed one. Does them mean that my setup is wrong? Please tell me i did this correct.

you need to take that ell off the bulkhead fitting in side the sump .

I'm gonna order an MR-2, single beckett, soon for my 90 gallon but I'm not sure what pump to use. I got it narrowed down to Gen-X PCX 55HP or the Blueline 55 HD. Is one that much better than the other? Would the Blueline be quieter and possibly last longer? Also would the higher max head on the Blueline make much of a difference in terms of performance of the skimmer? TIA (sorry if these questions have been discussed in the thread earlier but theres so much info! lol)

I went with the Gen-X PCX55HP for mine. I powered it on for a couple seconds dry and it was very quiet, but after I got it all hooked up, it turned out to be pretty loud. I don't know if it's just that mine is defective, or what, because I've seen posts about people commenting on how quiet these pumps are.

I got mine very loud when to turn it on, I opened up the fan and one of its blaze has excessive plastic and it hit the case. I shaved it off and it's all good.

You want a syphon break, with it your skimmer's water level will be much more consistant, becasue without bubbles will build up in the drain, break the syphon (skimmer water level goes up) then the bubbles get pushed under water and out, syphon starts again (skimmer water level goes down)

I found this out by hooking mine up and playing with it a month or so ago, if you want to skim dry it is no problem, but if you are skimming wet you really want the skimmer setup with one.

Sorry,
Whiskey

I think my skimmer is finally broken in. It took a couple days, and I had to play with the water level a bit, but it's been running great since last night.

does anyone have detailed instructions on how to do the U-tube mod. i read in a thread awhile back that it lowers the amount of bubbles leaving the skimmer but I dont know how to do it.

Due to the size of my tank (58 gallons) and having a small sump, the PCX55 is heating up my water. I let it run over night and then checked the water temperature around 3:00PM and the water was about 84 degrees. So now I'm looking at a few other options...

1. Possibly run the skimmer in ~8 hour intervals.
2. Run a MAG18 or higher on it.

I've thought about a chiller, but it'd be a few weeks before I could get one, and even then, it would be problematic to set up since my aquarium is out in the open and away from any walls near outside. There would be no easy way to remove the heat from the chiller nor would there be an easy way to place chiller outside.

The MRC website says a Mag18 will work with the MR-2, but it seems strange to suggest a magdrive and then a pressure rated pump for the same thing.

The Mag will heat up the water more than the GenX. Do you have the GenX in an area that's ventilated? How many degrees did it raise the temp?
