Not really, but I could build a shelf above the sump for the pump.

Will a pressure rated pump make it run more efficiently and consistently? If so, I'll have to break down and get one.

What sizes are best -- a range?
Iwaki MD55RLT pump.

dannieboiz 40 rxt is for flow only will not work very well on that skimmer.Dual becketts need a large pump and LARGE watts are used to make the pump work. Used just one beckett and a MD55RLT pump and the skimmer will do a good job.The pump i used on skimmer is a MD55RLT and one beckett,i could put on more becketts and larger pump i have them all do not to buy them but i do not used them.

I only have a single Beckett. MRC recommends the PCX55 HP GenX pump. It's much less expensive than the Iwaka -- quality aside.

I could cut the air down till it skims properly but then after 24 hours or so it will not skim at all because there is too little air.
Thanks.

Rich
Have you chech the air line after 24 hours to see if there is water in the air line.

Not sure what air line you are referring too, if it is the valve on the beckett, no there is no water. Thanks for the reply's.
I adjusted the skimmer last night when it was in it crazy mode. I will watch it tonight to see if its skimming or not and post my results tommorrow.

Thanks for your time

Rich

Why is it a suitable pump listed on Andys' site? Plus I've seen the MR2 run on the Mag with dual becketts and worked just perfectly

It is listed on Andy site because Andy sales pumps and skimmers the pumps that work well cost more so if he would list the pumps like Iwaki MD55RLT which cost $250.oo it would make the skimmers with the right pump cost more than a mag pump and skimmer. It is all a matter sales.

chriscobb a mag will work but is u use a pressure pump u will be like WOW ! trust me i ran mag12 mag18 & a mag24 on my Mr-2 & when i bought an iwaki 70 my jaw droped.

would someone post a link to more info on the u tube modification. In particular i would like to know how you connect the pvc on the bulkhead inside of the skimmer. What size pvc is used? is the bulkhead slip or threaded on the inside? BTW I have one of the quad beckett models and its quite a long reach down in there. I may have to make the u tube stick up a little further than most just so i can use it to actually reach the bulkhead. Any additional advise is welcome.

Skimmer Upgrade

Skimmer Upgrade

Hi All!

I just ordered a 12" extension for my MR-2; and I have a question.

Am I going to have to raise my water level once I install this extension? This may sound really, really naive, but I've never had a skimmer I could "modify" like this, so it's my first time experiencing these kinda things.

I also realize it's only a "baseline", but if I do, any thoughts as to where I should begin my testing?

Thanks for all your help-

-Andy/Oldimpala

I didn't have to raise my water level when I bought my extension, but my skimmer is a recirc model. Not sure if it will affect yours or not. I would however suggest raising your becketts up.

My Mr2- with 12 inch extension & this is where i like my water level, i however like to run it wet

Have a MR-1 on the way. I was planning on using my Mag12 for the pump, but after reading some of these threads, I may need a pressure rated pump?
What is the most affordable pressure pump that would give good performance? I dont have alot of money to throw down. Or if someone has one that they want to sell, LMK.

Or is anyone using a Mag12 with good results. I really dont want to buy a new pump, but I may have to.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would order the GenX PCX-30 pump from Andy. He has them on sale for $89 right now.

What about a Little Giant 3-MDQX-SC for the MR-1. Its rated at 6.10 PSI. 1100 gph at 1ft. I can get one of these fairly cheap. How do you think it would compare to a Genx - 30?

Does anyone have the ozone port connected?

I'm thinking of using ozone, but it seems the way the connection is it will let too much air into the Beckett and interfere with the skimming.

Any conmments? Suggestions?
