My 240g FOWLR

So I'm thinking of removing my Chaetodon fasciatus. He's always just really dark looking... more of an olive brown than a bright yellow.

Send him to me, I was tempted to buy the one on DD and try to add it with my existing Chaetodon fasciatus :)
Could it be your lighting? Mine has held the same color for as long as I've had him, which has been quite a while.

Here are a couple pics with no camera flash (*sorry about the fous, I just uploaded the first 2 I took). Not the greatest color rendition, but you get the idea, especially compared to the yellow of the rock beauty....

And BTW this is under the Fiji purple bulb which really makes yellows and oranges pop. :-/

Hmm, yours is a little dark. I personally still really like that species but to each his own.
I don't know about yours but mine is a really active swimmer and hardly ever sits still.

I agree with all those things. My concern is that, IME, certain butterflies, when stressed, have their yellow parts tun dark. I've seen it particularly with falcula, melannotus, and now fasciatus. In the past, it was always easy to ID the stress (either a fish being harassed by, or harassing, the fish in question). I have not seen any aggression to or from the fasciatus. But I dunno.... they look like stress colors to me...

I want to see orange tones on bright yellow, like this:

Falcula for sure. When you posted its colors were dark, my first thought was it was being stressed as well. Could just be one of those species that doesn't handle the busyness of a tank that well. Kinda strange considering C. lunula usually does.

I agree, I was thinking the same thing... also surprised since I've seen videos of them in the wild in big groups. Wouldn't be my first guess as a species that doesn't like crowds. He's definitely timid though... will never challenge another butterfly.

If you do get rid of him, I'd like to try and put one in my sps reef. Nothing in there but some glass cardinalfish, few gobies and a longnose hawkfish. Very little stress I'd imagine.

Very nice! Your new mac looks like he is getting on well with the other fish! Has he been staying out in the open? Any issues aggression wise from the more established angels?

Hey Peter,

What camera are you using? Trying to narrow it down, and being tech-challenged I have no idea on what to decide on...

He fit right into the mix without issue. Actually a lot less shy than I was expecting. I tend not to have issues from the other angels. Those darn melanopus clowns are a whole other story though :uzi:

I usually use my Sony, because it has the largest lens of my point and shoot cameras, and the fish are always dashing around, and therefore difficult to photograph (well, difficult to make the photos be in focus ;) ).

Thanks for the updated pictures! Looks like the scribbled has grown a bit since your first picture

Thanks, yeah, I'd say she's growing at a nice rate.

Would you have any suggestions or advice on QTing a chaetodon pelewensis? I have a 30g QT tank. Should I use both Cupramine and Prazi? It will be going in with a Bellus Angel.
