My 400 gallon in-wall Miracles Reef Tank

Cathy,

You will love the off-the-back overflows! Derek did our in-wall with drains and returns in the bottom and an overflow off the back. They do nice work and like you said, Derek is a pleasure to work with!

The only mistake we made on ours was not putting holes in the euro-brace along the top sides for returns like you did...

I have taken the two side tanks down and relocated all the contents. They sat against the wall the new tank will be built into.

Unfortunately, there has not been much progress on the new tank. Only enough of the wall has been taken out to get measurements to have the 3ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ X 3ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ steel pipe stand with leveling legs designed. Let me tell you, that is some heavy stuff! The stand will weigh as much or more than the empty tank. The stand design is finally at the weld shop and the materials have been ordered, so hopefully we will have the stand in a week or two. It will also have to get powder coated after the weld shop is done with it.

After we get the stand and tank in place, I plan to take a week or two of vacation to get things rolling!

Once the stand starts going together, I should be able to get a few pictures to post along the way. That sucker is going to be humongous! The shelf for the display tank will be close to 6ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ tall, because the garage floor is 3ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ lower than the house floor. There will be a second shelf below it for a sump, fuge, and frag tank. The display shelf will have a cat-walk around it for easy access.

you should lift the tank abit and make it a fish room, kind of like oregan reef.tank is going to be awesome, cant wait to see it running.

Cathy - keep us posted with pics an updates please. I have talked to Derek at Miracles and am planning a 96 x 30 x 30 for an addition on to our house. Probably about 6 - 8 month away from ordering so , I will be watching your progress eagerly! Thanks.

46bfinGA,

Do you have a link to oregan reef.tank? At this point it is good to take a look at all options. At this stage, it is not to late to change some things if I want to.

WahooOne, I am glad you are talking to Derek. He is a gem to work with and I just love the finished product. You may pay more for their tank than some others, but I think for what I got, it was worth every penny.

Duct Work and Venting Help

Does any one know if and where something like this could be found?

I am planning to enclose my MH and run a fan on one end. I would like to put duct work on the other end with some kind of a Y with an electronic switch so I can use a temp controller to either vent the heat to the attic in the summer or switch and vent the heat to the inside if the fish room is to cool.

My inspiration. :)

46bfinGA,

I won't be needing a fish room like oregonreef.com. One stall of our garage will be walled off surrounding the tank for a fish room. But I will be seeing about getting some of the barn door slides like he used for my lights.

NexDog, I can see why that is your inspiration! That is one massive and well planned setup!

Finally some progress!

Finally some progress!

My steel stand is almost ready to be sent out for powder coating.
The stand is made out of 3 X 3ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ square tubing. Itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s a good thing we mudjacked that floor! That sucker is heavy without the tank!

It will have two shelves, the top will be for the main display tank and will be nearly 5 Ã"šÃ‚½Ã¢â"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ up from the garage floor. The second shelf will be nearly 16ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ from the garage floor and will hold a sump, fuge and frag tank.

The thumbnails are clickable links to a larger picture.

The material was ordered.

The parts were cut and starting to be tacked together.

The stand is upside down being tacked together and the adjustable feet have been added.

The stand is right side up and is being welded together. The front of the tank will be the side with the shorter legs. They will actually sit on the house basement wall, and the back longer legs will sit on the garage floor.

The stand is nearly ready to be sent out for powder coating. There are still a few finishing touches to be done first.

Since the bottom of the display tank will be 5 Ã"šÃ‚½Ã¢â"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ foot off the garage floor, this material will be used for the a catwalk around the top tank.

Yes, it looks huge!

It will help some with the installation weight and moveability because the catwalk will be self supporting, but will be bolted to the stand after the tanks are in place.

And, the legs on the garage side of the stand in the center are also removeable to aid in placing the sump/frag and fuge on the bottom shelf.

After 3 months of waiting, my steel stand is finally here. It is made out of 3ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ square tubing. And has a detachable cat-walk around it. Now the fun part will finally begin!

Here are some pictures of the stand. Click on the thumb nail for a larger image.

On this photo, you can see part of the cat-walk on the left end. The cat-walk will not be installed until after the tanks are in place. You can see also that the legs on the garage side of the stand are missing, in the center. They are bolt in legs and will be installed after the tanks are in place.

This is the wall in the living room where my 125 was until last weekend, and where the new tank will be. The 125 was in the room, but the 400 will sit in the garage and be picture framed into the living room

In the above pictures, the side of the stand that appears to have no legs will sit on the basement wall which is taller than the garage floor. The side that sits in the garage has the long legs with the removable center legs.

All the legs do have huge blue steel screw bolts for leveling.

The garage is 10' tall, but I still will not be able to stand completely upright on the catwalk.

The sheet rock has been removed from the garage wall.

There were also steps going to the attic that will have to be relocated to the other garage stall.

Tomorrow the studs and inside sheet rock will be removed. The electric in the wall will be cut loose and left lay. I am doing the electrical work, so I will have to take care of that Saturday. I work 10 hr. days, so it doesn't leave much time to work on projects when I get home.

I am hoping that may be we will be ready to set the tanks next Saturday, April 29th.

Wow, what a day for an old round chick! I am exhausted! I can feel that it is going to be and IB Profin night! I started re-routing the electrical at 8:00 AM and finished at 8:00 PM. It was a lot of work in the attic (hotter than Hattie) and in the basement (mega trips up and down stairs). While I was working on the Electrical, Loren and a neighbor worked on altering the floor trusses so the stand legs would fit on the basement wall.

The stand has been moved into place. Tomorrow it will be leveled and some more framing will be done. The garage door tract will be removed; the plywood and Styrofoam will be put on the stand.
